Tools enable ClickUp AI and Super Agents to perform different jobs for you.

For example, there are tools for summarizing your team's daily activity, changing a task's status, or posting a comment.

To use Super Agents, you'll need to use ClickUp 4.0 and activate the AI ClickApp for your Workspace.

If you want to interact with Super Agents via Chat, you'll need to activate the Chat ClickApp.

Use ClickUp AI tools 

Tools are available for use with Autopilot Agents, Super Agents, and Brain Assistant. Some tools are available when interacting with all three. Others are specific.

There are two categories of tools:

• Ready to use: These tools are visible when you interact with AI features as links or buttons.
• Prompt-based: Tools are also used when you write a prompt asking Brain Assistant to perform a job for you.

If you can't find a ready-to-use tool, try asking Brain Assistant if it can do something for you!

ClickUp Agents and tools

Tools can be added to Autopilot Agents or Super Agents during or after setup. Super Agents and Autopilot Agents share almost all of the same tools.

Tools cannot be added to Ambient Answers Agents.

Brain Assistant and tools

There are ready-to-use Brain Assistant tools. You can also write your own prompts for Brain Assistant. 

Ready-to-use tool locations

You'll most often find ready-to-use tools in Brain Assistant in the toolbar or a location header.

 Here's how to open Brain Assistant from these locations:

• Brain Assistant in the toolbar: To the right of the toolbar, next to your Profile, click the ClickUp AI icon. AI is accessible from the toolbar anywhere in ClickUp.
• Brain Assistant in a location header: When you're in a Space, Folder, or List, in the upper-right corner, click the ClickUp AI icon.

Prompt-based tool use

Tools are also used when you write a prompt asking Brain Assistant to perform a job for you. 

To write your own prompt:

1. Open Brain Assistant from the toolbar, location header, Chat, a task, a Doc, or Inbox.
2. Start using AI tools:
   • Type /AI to see the tools available via AI /Slash Commands.
   • Type a custom prompt into Brain Assistant's prompt field. 
     For example: Update my comment in Task A, "Let's meet on Thurs. at 8 am" to "Let's meet on Wed. at 8:30 am."

Default tools

When you create an Agent, several required tools are automatically enabled. Default tools vary by Agent type and cannot be deactivated.

ClickUp AI toolsets for Agents

Toolsets are curated packs of tools designed to give Agents the necessary capabilities for specific use cases. Think of them as starter kits for common workflows like managing tasks or creating new items.

Instead of manually selecting every tool, you can add a toolset to your Agent, enabling a full set of related actions. 

Each tool in a toolset can also be used on its own, so you’re never locked in. You can mix and match toolsets and individual tools as needed.

External tools

You can add ClickUp AI tools from both Workspace and personal connections to your Agents. The available tools vary by app and connection type.

By adding personal app knowledge to an Agent configuration, you expose the data from the connected app to anyone who can interact with the Agent. Read our article about tools from personal connections.
