Integrate external MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers like GitHub MCP or Atlassian MCP with your ClickUp Workspace, allowing your ClickUp Super Agents and ClickUp Brain to use tools from external apps.
For example, you can connect your CRM's MCP server to your Workspace. Your Super Agents and Brain can then use available MCP tools to take actions, such as create CRM records, provision accounts, or sync customer data, all from ClickUp.
This feature is in a closed beta and will begin to release to all Workspaces soon.
For a limited time, all plans can connect to external MCP servers. Pricing may be subject to change in the future.
What you'll need
- You can connect an external MCP server on any plan.
- Only Workspace owners and admins can set up Workspace connections.
- Members can set up personal connections if admins allow personal connections.
- Guests and limited members cannot set up integrations.
- Currently, you can only connect MCP servers from the ClickUp browser app.
Connection types
When connecting an external MCP server, you'll select a connect type:
- Just for me: This is a personal connection. Connect your external MCP server account with your ClickUp user account for each Workspace you've created or joined. Only you will be able to use tools from this connection in Super Agents and Brain.
- For all members: This is a Workspace connection, which can only be enabled by a Workspace owner or admin. Everyone in the Workspace will be able to use tools from this connection in Super Agents and Brain.
Admin controls for connections
Workspaces using Custom Role permissions can turn off the ability to add Workspace or personal MCP server connections.
Connect an external MCP server
Before connecting, check with your MCP provider to identify which authentication method and headers they expect. Mirror these when connecting the server in ClickUp.
MCP servers must have a public URL to connect.
To connect an external MCP server to your Workspace:
- Open the App Center:
- In the upper-left corner, click your Workspace avatar and select Apps.
- In Global Navigation, click More and select Apps.
- Use the Open App Center command in the AI Command Bar.
- In the App Center sidebar, select MCP Servers.
- Click Add Custom MCP Server or select Connect below one of the templates.
- Choose the connection type:
- For all members: Set up a Workspace connection.
- Just for me: Set up a personal connection.
- Add your server information in the necessary fields. You must include a name, URL, and authentication method. Optionally, you can add a server icon and description.
- When connecting a custom MCP server, there are three authorization methods you can choose from:
-
OAuth: You’ll be redirected to the provider’s OAuth flow, then returned to ClickUp.
Some providers require a redirect/callback URL to be registered before you can connect. Use https://search.clickup-prod.com/connect/mcp.
- API key: Enter your API key. If your provider requires them, enter the custom headers. If valid, ClickUp will connect and display the available tools.
- No authentication: Connect ClickUp directly. If your provider requires them, enter the custom headers. If valid, ClickUp will connect and display the available tools.
-
- When connecting a custom MCP server, you can customize the Client ID, Client Secret, and Scopes in the Advanced configuration section.
- Once connected, you'll see all of the available tools that you can now add to Super Agents and use in Brain listed in the app's AI Tools section.
Add MCP tools to Super Agents
Now that your MCP server is connected, its tools are available for use in your Super Agents.
Tool availability and behavior depend on the external MCP server provider.
Add MCP tools to an existing Super Agent
To add tools from an MCP server you've connected to an existing Super Agent:
- Open your Super Agent's profile.
- In the Skills section, click Add tools.
- Click the MCP tab and select the MCP server you connected.
-
Add all of the MCP server's tools by clicking Add all at the top of the menu. Or, select individual tools to add them.
Don't forget to update the Super Agent's instructions as well!
Add MCP tools when creating a Super Agent
If you mention a workflow involving an MCP server you've connected while building a Super Agent, the tools from that server are automatically added to the Super Agent after it is created.
