Use ClickUp AI in Chat
Use AI in Chat to create and assign tasks, find related tasks and Channels, and summarize and ask AI questions about the Channel.
Access ClickUp AI from Chat
You can access AI tools in Channels, sent or unsent messages and posts, and the details sidebar.
From a Channel
To ask about a Channel or use Catch me up from a Channel:
- Open a Channel.
- In the upper-right corner of the screen, click the ClickUp AI icon to do any of these actions:
- From the AI modal in the Ask about this Channel section, select a question.
- Click Catch me up to ask AI to summarize what you've missed in this channel.
- At the bottom of the modal, type a question into the prompt field.
From an unsent message or post
To use Ask AI or AI tools from an unsent message or Post:
- From an empty message or post, press Space to open Brain Assistant.
- Type
@brain
to open Brain Assistant. - From the unsent message or Post field, type the /Slash Command
/ai
and select an AI feature. You can also click the plus icon in the lower-left corner of the field to open all /Slash Commands. - From the unsent message or Post, select some text and click Ask AI. Select an option to ask AI to help you edit or write.
From a sent message or Post
To create or assign a task or use AI tools from a sent message or Post, hover over the message and select an option:
Create or Assign:
- Assign to: Select a person to assign this message to. You cannot assign posts.

Create a task with AI: Click to ask AI to create a task from the content of the message. From the task you can move and assign the task, set a priority level, open the task, or copy the link.
- Post to Thread: Click to post the task to the thread to let people know you're taking action!
- Create a task manually: Click to open a task populated with the thread link.
Brain: Hover over the message and in the text toolbar, click the ClickUp AI icon. Select one of the following tools:
- Summarize thread: Click to create a summary of the message.
- Create a task: Create a task from the message using AI.
- Find related tasks: Click to ask AI to find tasks related to this message.
- Find related Docs: Click to ask AI to find Docs related to this message.
After AI responds to any of these prompts you can do the following:
- Post to thread: Post the response to the message thread.
- Create a Doc: Create a Doc from the response.
- Copy: Copy the text to paste it into another location manually. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
- Try again: Click to get a different response from the same prompt.
- Tell AI what to do next: Give AI more direction or ask AI something new.
From the details sidebar
To use Catch me up from the details sidebar:
To open the details sidebar, in the upper-right corner click the sidebar icon. Select AI.
The icon only displays when you're in a Channel. Catch me up is only available if you have unread messages.
In the Catch me up modal, you have the following options:
Catch me up from:
- Last 24 hours
- Last 2 days
- Last 3 days
- Last 7 days
- Last 14 days
After AI responds you can do the following:
- Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
- Create task: Create a task from the response.
- Create Doc: Create a Doc from the response.
- Retry: Click to get a different response from the same prompt.
- Tell AI what to do next: Give AI more direction or ask AI something new.
- Feedback: Click the thumbs up or thumbs down icon to share your AI feedback!
From unread posts and messages
To use Catch me up from unread posts and messages:
Click Catch me up to generate a summary of everything you missed.
Send a message or reply using ClickUp AI
- For example: Can you send the comment to the Content Team Channel "I can send a message without leaving my task!"
- For example: Can you reply in a thread "Sweet!!!" to @MyTeammate with the comment "I can send a message without leaving my task!"
