Main AI access points

You can use AI anywhere in your Workspace. The main access points are the toolbar, Chat, Ask AI, the floating ClickUp AI icon, and Automate. 

From the floating icon, toolbar, and Ask AI, you can access our Ask AI features. 

From Chat and Automate, you can access our AutoAI features.

The toolbar

The ClickUp AI icon in the toolbar is always visible. 

To access AI from the toolbar:

Ask AI

The Ask AI button is always visible.

To open AI with the Ask AI  button:

  • From a location header's upper-right corner, click the Ask AI button. 
  • To ask AI to focus on the tasks in a Space, Folder, or List from that location's header in the upper-right corner click Ask AI.

Floating ClickUp AI icon

When you're not in an open item, like a task or Doc, the ClickUp AI icon in the lower-right corner is visible. 

To open AI from the action button:

  • In the lower-right corner, click the ClickUp AI icon.
  • Or click a floating prompt, for example, Workspace Q&A. 

To hide the floating prompts:

  • To the upper-right of the floating prompts, click the x icon. 
  • To see the prompts, hover over the action button.

Chat

When you're in a Channel, you can use the AutoAI feature Chat Agents. 

To open AutoAI from Chat:

  • From the Chat, in the upper-right corner click Agents or the lightning bolt icon.

Chat and AutoAI in Chat are currently in limited release.

Automate

Use AutoAI to create Chat Agents or AI Custom Fields.

To open AutoAI from Automate:

  • In the upper-right corner click Automate or the lightning bolt icon.

The prompt field

The main ClickUp Brain modals have a prompt field at the bottom. The field is usually labeled Tell AI what to do next. In the prompt field, you can communicate with ClickUp AI in these ways:

Ask AI about attached files

Ask AI about the content in attached PDFs and image files. Have a large PDF from a client or vendor? Ask AI-specific questions about its content! Working with global teams and need to translate the text in an image file? Ask AI to translate it!

@mention people and items

To @mention a person, task, Doc, or Chat:

  1. Type @. Or, in the prompt field, click the @ icon.
  2. Click the tab.

  3. Select the person or item. 
    • Try adding the @mention to a prompt! For example, you could type:
    • Find the latest comment from @. Then the Person tab displays. Select a person to complete the prompt. 
    • Who is assigned to @@. Then the task tab displays. Select a task to complete the prompt. 

ClickUp AI differs by Workspace location

AI features and prompt suggestions differ depending on location and context.

When you open AI from a location, like a Folder, task, or Chat, the AI modal focuses on that location. You don't need to visit a different Workspace location to see different AI options. ClickUp AI is flexible! 

Here's an example of how to switch context from a location-based to a Workspace AI modal:

  1. To ask AI to focus on the tasks in a Space, from the Space's location header in the upper-right corner click Ask AI. You have the following choices:
    • In the Ask about your Space section, select a question. 
    • In the Features section, click a feature. 
    • In the prompt field, ask AI a question about the tasks in this Space. 
  2. To ask AI to focus on the entire Workspace, above the prompt field in the upper-right corner click the x icon next to the location's name.

  3. You have the following choices:
    • Select or add a connected app. 
    • In the Suggestions section, select a prompt.
    • In the following sections, select a ClickUp AI feature.
    • After selecting an option, to return to the Workspace AI modal click the home icon. 
    • To ask AI to focus on the Space again, click into the prompt field and click the tab button or press tab on your keyboard.

Connected AI

Connected AI lets you ask questions about anything in your Workspace or connected apps, like Google Drive. 

Anywhere text is used

Access the AI menu available in your location by typing the AI /Slash Command. Or click the AI icon in the text formatting toolbar. 

/Slash Commands

The only text location AI /Slash Commands can't be used is the AI modal.

To access AI using the AI /Slash Command:

  1. Place your cursor at the end of the text you want AI to work with and type the /Slash Command /ai. 
    For example, you can place the cursor at the end of the first paragraph and select Fix spelling and grammar. AI will only look at the first paragraph.
  2. From the dropdown, click to open a prompt.

Text formatting toolbar

To access AI using the text formatting toolbar:

  1. From any location that accepts text, highlight all or part of the text.
  2. Select the AI icon from the text toolbar. 
  3. From the dropdown, click to open a prompt.

Tasks, Docs, and comments

Use AI in these locations to do the following:

Tasks

Use AI in tasks to summarize, consolidate your work, and find stuck projects. You can also ask AI to write your emails. 

Docs

Use AI in Docs to summarize, create action items, spell-check, and ask AI questions about your Docs. 

Comments and comment threads

Use AI in your Inbox to quickly see the main points of a long comment or thread. 

Chat

There are several ways to use AI in Chat.

Ask AI in Chat

Use AI in Chat to create and assign tasks, find related tasks and Chats, and summarize and ask AI questions about the Chat.

AI Agents in Chat

Chat Agents is currently in beta. We are gradually releasing Agents along with our Chat feature.

Chat Agents can do things like answer questions based on specific knowledge sources or create tasks and Docs based on requests. Chat Agents can even reference information from Connected Search apps like Google Drive, Sharepoint, and Confluence.

AI Custom Fields

Use AutoAI to create or access an AI Custom Field.

Use AI to summarize tasks, get updates, translate, and create action items, or create your own custom AI fields for endless possibilities!

This is also where you create other Automations when the AI add-on is enabled in your Workspace.
