Create custom apps, dashboards, prototypes, and other Artifacts

Use ClickUp Brain or Super Agents to create custom apps, dashboards, landing pages, reports, prototypes, code, and other Artifacts from prompts, uploaded files, computed results, and Workspace data.

Feature availability and limits vary by plan and user role. Learn more

Creating or editing an Artifact consumes AI Credits. For more details on usage, open the Analytics page.

For example, after Brain analyzes a spreadsheet or compares a dataset with Workspace tasks, you can ask it to turn the results into an executive summary deck, an investor report, or a dashboard. For the full analysis workflow behind these outputs, read Perform data analysis with ClickUp Brain AI.

Create an Artifact

There are several ways to create an Artifact.

After the Artifact is created, open it to review the latest version and confirm it's ready to use. You can ask for changes in the color palette, tone, style, or anything else.

You can reopen Artifacts later from the conversation where they were created, and from other places in your Workspace where Artifact links and previews appear.

Using Brain

To ask Brain to design an Artifact:

  1. Open Brain or @mention Brain.
    • Alternatively, click Artifacts in your Home Sidebar. If its hidden, click More, then Artifacts.
    • Additionally, you can select a card at the top of the Artifacts page, like Slides or Dashboards, to open a Brain chat with ClickUp's Art Kits for that category.
  2. Ask Brain to create something.
    • You can also provide a link to an item, like a Doc or List. For example, you could provide a product brief and ask Brain to create product pages.
  3. Don't worry about filling in all the details. Brain will chat with you and ask follow-up questions.

From a premade Art Kit

To build an Artifact from one of ClickUp's Art Kits:

  1. In your Home Sidebar, select Artifacts. If its hidden, click More, then Artifacts.
  2. At the top of the Artifacts page, click a card, such as Report and Review. A Brain chat opens with the Start with a template panel, which lists the Art Kits in that category.
  3. Click an Art Kit. Brain describes it and asks how you want to tailor it.
  4. Answer Brain's question, or click Keep it as-is.
  5. Brain builds the Artifact and opens it beside the chat. If Brain can't find a matching List in your Workspace, the Artifact opens with sample data. To connect a List, click Use live data.

Using a Super Agent

If your Super Agent has the Direct Message Trigger enabled, you can ask a Super Agent to create an Artifact:

  1. In your Home Sidebar, select Artifacts. If its hidden, click More, then Artifacts.
  2. In the Super Agents section of the AI sidebar, click All Agents and select an agent. You can also select an agent under Recent Super Agents.
  3. At the top of the agent's page, click Chat.
  4. Type your request and press Enter. For example, Create a landing page for our new ACME protein powder.
  5. In the agent's reply, click the Artifact card to open the Artifact.

From an Art Kit in your Workspace

To build an Artifact from an Art Kit made in your Workspace:

  1. In your Home Sidebar, select Artifacts. If its hidden, click More, then Artifacts.
  2. Click the Art Kits tab.
  3. Click an Art Kit to open it.
  4. In the upper-right corner, click Use Art Kit.
  5. Brain will begin building the Artifact and tell you when it's done.

Open an Artifact

Your Artifacts are saved in your Workspace and listed on the Artifacts page, so you can reopen them without returning to the conversation that created them.

To open an Artifact:

  1. In your Home Sidebar, select Artifacts. If its hidden, click More, then Artifacts.

  1. Click the Artifact to open it.
  2. To search within the tab you're on, click the search icon in the upper-right corner of the tab row.
  3. To switch between a visual gallery and a list, click the View options icon next to the search icon and select Gallery or List.

In List view, there are several columns you can use to filter Artifacts:

  • Name
  • Type
  • Location
  • Creator
  • Date updated
  • Date viewed

To customize which columns display in List view or how Artifacts are sorted, click the View options icon and use Sort, Group by, and the column checkboxes.

Search for Artifacts from anywhere in your Workspace using the AI Command Bar.

Open an Artifact in full screen

To open an Artifact in full screen:

1. Open the Artifact.

2. Hover over the top of the Artifact. In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis ... icon and select Full screen.

3. To leave full screen, press Esc.

Create and use Live Artifacts

A Live Artifact reads your Workspace data each time it opens, so a dashboard or report stays current without a rebuild.

To create a Live Artifact:

  1. Start a Chat with Brain.
  2. Describe the Live Artifact you want to create and what live data you want included in it. For example, Build a dashboard of my open tasks by status that uses live data.

Each person that views the Artifact will only see tasks they have access to.

Approve a Live Artifact's actions

A Live Artifact can also make changes in your Workspace, like setting a task's status. Before it makes a change, you'll be asked to approve by selecting one of the following:

  • Allow once: Approve this change.
  • Always allow: Approve this type of change from this Artifact without asking again.
  • Deny: Stop the change. Nothing in your Workspace changes.

A Live Artifact can only change what you have permission to change in the Workspace.

To choose what a Live Artifact can do without asking:

  1. Open your Live Artifact and hover over the header.
  2. Click the comments icon.
  3. Select the Actions tab.
  4. Under ClickUp actions, click Allow next to an action. These settings only apply to you.

See which data your Live Artifact reads

To see what a Live Artifact reads:

  1. Open your Live Artifact and hover over the header.
  2. Click the comments icon.
  3. Select the Actions tab.
  4. Click the Data sources tab. It shows what the Artifact read, how many requests it made, and the locations it viewed.

Use Art Kits

An Art Kit is a reusable template that Brain builds an Artifact from.

For example, if your team creates a monthly sales dashboard, you can turn the finished dashboard into an Art Kit. Next month, someone on the team picks the Art Kit and Brain builds a new dashboard with the same layout and style around new data. The Art Kit itself doesn't change.

ClickUp also provides Art Kits for common use cases, like reports, dashboards, and slides. They're grouped by use case in the cards at the top of the Artifacts page.

Create an Art Kit

To create an Art Kit:

  1. Open Brain.
  2. Tell Brain which Artifact you want to create an Art Kit from. For example, Create an Art Kit from my Q3 sales dashboard.
  3. Answer any follow-up questions from Brain.

Restore an earlier Artifact version

Each time an Artifact changes, a version is saved.

To restore an earlier version:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. Hover over the top of the Artifact.
  3. In the upper-right corner, click the current version number, such as V2. You can also click the ellipsis ... icon in the upper-right corner and select Version history.

Screenshot of a version number

  1. In the Versions tab, click a version.
  2. Click Restore this version.

Share Artifacts

To share an Artifact:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. Hover over the top of the Artifact. In the upper-right corner, click Share.
  3. Choose how to share the Artifact:
    • To invite someone, type a name or email in People, agents, Teams or email at the top of the menu. To add a suggested person, click their avatar at the bottom of the menu.
    • To share it with people outside your Workspace, turn on Publish and share to web. Anyone with the link can view.
    • To give everyone in your Workspace access, click the Workspace sharing dropdown under General access and select the option that names your Workspace.
    • To set someone's permission level, click People and Teams under Shared with, then click the level beside their name and select Full, Edit, Comment, or View only.
    • To send the Artifact to people who already have access, click Copy link at the bottom of the menu.

Artifact permissions

Artifacts have four permission levels: Full, Edit, Comment, and View only.

An Artifact added to a location, like a Space, Folder, or List, inherits that location's permissions and stays in sync with them. People get the same level they have on the location.

When you share an Artifact and set someone's permission level, the level you set doesn't change when the location's permissions change.

Add an Artifact to a location

Move an Artifact into your Hierarchy so your team finds it alongside the rest of their work:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. In the upper-left corner, next to the Artifact name, click Add Artifact to a location.
  3. Select List, Folder, or Space (as a view).
  4. Search or browse for the location.

Moving an Artifact changes who can access it. Its permissions follow the new location unless you've shared it with someone directly.

You can also build an Artifact directly on a location. In the Views Bar, click View, then click Artifact.

Edit an Artifact

Edit an Artifact yourself or have Brain make changes for you.

Edit text yourself

To edit text inline:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. In the bar at the bottom of the Artifact, click Select an item to edit.
  3. Click the text you want to change.
  4. Use the toolbar to change the text style, font size, font family, or color.
  5. To leave edit mode, click Exit edit mode.

Have Brain change elements

To have Brain change one or more elements:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. In the bar at the bottom of the Artifact, click Select an item to edit.
  3. Click the element you want to change.
  4. Describe the change in Ask Brain to make changes. Brain applies the changes and saves a new version.

Comment on an Artifact

To comment on an Artifact:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. In the upper-right corner, click Add a comment.
  3. In the comments sidebar, click an element on the Artifact, or use the comment field at the bottom.

To see comments from every version, click All versions at the top of the comments sidebar. To choose who gets notified, click Change followers.

Download, rename, archive, or delete an Artifact

To download, rename, archive, or delete an Artifact:

  1. Open the Artifact.
  2. Hover over the top of the Artifact. In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis ... icon.
  3. Select an action:
    • Rename
    • Add to Favorites
    • Full screen
    • Download
    • Edit Artifact
    • Version history
    • Report a problem
    • Remix
    • Turn into Kit
    • Move to
    • Archive
    • Delete Artifact

Remix an Artifact

Remixing makes a new copy of an Artifact so you can make changes without touching the original.

To remix an Artifact:

1. Open the Artifact.

2. In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis ... icon.

3. Select Remix.

4. In the Remix Artifact modal, choose a Workspace to remix into and give your copy a name.

5. Click Remix.

Limitations

Artifacts run in a secure sandbox that keeps your Workspace data private. An Artifact can't make network requests or load code from outside ClickUp, so everything it needs is built directly into it.

A Live Artifact reads current Workspace data through ClickUp's own connection. It still can't reach services outside ClickUp or load outside code. Each viewer sees only the data their permissions allow.

Workspace admins can turn off creating Artifacts, Live Artifacts included, for one person on the People page under AI in Workspace settings, or for a role with a Custom Role permission. If the person who created a Live Artifact becomes a guest, it stops showing live data for everyone.

Artifacts can't use the following:

  • Scripts, libraries, and stylesheets from external content delivery networks (CDNs), like Mermaid, Chart.js, Tailwind, or Font Awesome.
  • Requests to external APIs, webhooks, or your own servers, including fetch(), XMLHttpRequest, and WebSockets.

These limits apply to every Artifact on your browser, desktop app, and mobile app, whether it's private, shared, or published to the web. Charts, diagrams, animations, and interactive elements work when Brain builds them directly into the Artifact.

When an Artifact depends on an external library or service, that part of the Artifact doesn't load. Ask Brain to rebuild it without the external library. For example, Rebuild this diagram as inline SVG without external libraries.

In your browser console, errors that start with Refused to load the script or Refused to connect, and the error fetch is not a function, mean the Artifact tried to reach outside ClickUp. This is expected behavior.

To show live Workspace data, create a Live Artifact. To pull data from outside ClickUp, host the page outside ClickUp and use the ClickUp API.

What else can you design?

Without switching tools or leaving your Workspace, you can ask Brain or Super Agents to create Artifacts from your actual work.

Here are a few ways Brain and Super Agents can use your Workspace items when creating Artifacts:

Industry Workspace items Artifact created
Sales Custom Fields: Company size, pain points, use cases; Product brief Doc A prospect-specific pitch deck
Creative Services Campaign List task names, start dates, due dates, and statuses; Campaign brief Doc A visual one-pager showing timeline, deliverables, and KPIs for client approval
Healthcare Shift-coverage List task names, assignees, statuses; Custom Field: Hours needed A staffing capacity dashboard
Real Estate Maintenance List task names, statuses, and assignees; Custom Fields: Cost HTML summary for investors
Construction Milestone List task names, start dates, due dates, and statuses Gantt-style presentation for stakeholder updates
Finance Statuses, assignees, date completed from List of tasks tagged "Compliance Review"; Custom Fields: Outcomes, Risk Score Quarterly audit report
Manufacturing Supplier List task names, due dates, and status; Custom Field: Quality score Supplier overview HTML page

Artifact link previews

When you paste an Artifact URL anywhere in your Workspace, you have the option to show a visual preview.

Request access to an Artifact

When an Artifact you don't have access to is shared, you can request access from the owner by clicking Request access. You may need to click the Artifact link before this option displays.

Approve access to an Artifact

If someone requests access to an Artifact you own, you can approve the request and choose their permission, or decline it:

  1. Click the approval request notification in your Inbox or click the hand icon in the upper-right of the Artifact.
  2. To deny, click Decline. To approve, choose a permission level from the dropdown, then click Approve.
