Our AI writing tools make you a better, faster writer. Writing tools draft descriptions, plans, and action items based on the context of an existing task or Doc. Writing tools can translate, summarize, simplify, explain, and improve any content.

Write with AI from anywhere in ClickUp

You can use Brain AI to help you write by typing a writing request into any prompt field.

For example, from a Doc, to create a blog post:

  1. In the upper-right corner, click the Ask AI button.
  2. Type your custom prompt: "Write a blog post about the most commonly used coding languages."
  3. Click Send.
  4. Continue the conversation to refine your content. For example, you could ask Brain: "Create shorter paragraphs, use bullet points, and add subheadings".

Use Brain AI writing tools

You can use ClickUp Brain writing tools anywhere in ClickUp that accepts text. For example, a task comment, a Chat, or a Doc.

To use Brain AI writing tools:

  1. Select some text.
  2. In the text toolbar:
    • Click Improve. Brain will automatically generate an improved version of the selected text. You can review the response before using the improved version.
    • Or, click Edit to use AI writing and editing tools, or enter a custom prompt. Brain will generate an edited version of the selected text.
    • You can also ask Brain to create a task from the text toolbar.
  3. Review Brain's response and take action. Options include:
    • Replace with this answer: Replace the selected text with Brain's response.
    • Insert below: Add Brain's response immediately below the selected text.
    • Copy: Copy Brain's response.
    • Save & continue in Ask AI: Continue the conversion using Brain Assistant to improve the selected text.
    • Back: Return to the prompt field.

Brain AI writing tools

The following table describes the available Brain AI writing tools:

Fix spelling and grammar Brain corrects your spelling and grammar. 
Make longer Brain provides more content based on what you've written. 
Make shorter Brain provides more concise content. 
Simplify writing Brain provides easier-to-read content. 
Generate action items Brain provides a checklist of actionable items. 
Continue writing  Brain continues writing what you've started. 
Explain this Brain summarizes lengthy or complex content.
Summarize this  Brain summarizes what you've written. 
Translate Brain translates text into English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic.

Use /Slash Commands

/Slash Commands offer a refined set of AI writing tools, so you can quickly create and edit content.

From anywhere in ClickUp that uses text:

  1. Type the /Slash Command /write or /writing.
  2. Select a writing tool.

Custom Prompt Ask Brain to write anything using a custom prompt.
Edit a draft
  1. Paste a draft into the modal.
  2. Ask AI to edit it.
  3. Press Return or Enter or click the send icon. 
Use writing tools
  1. Select a writing tool:
    • Write a description,
    • Create a plan,
    • or Generate action items.
  2. Click the Default Tone dropdown to select a tone. For example, professional or humorous.
  3. Click the Creativity dropdown to select a level of creativity. Low creativity is probably best for professional writing. High creativity will add extra flair and may be suitable for a blog post.

The response is based on context from the location.

For example, from a project outline Doc, you click Generate action items. Brain uses the content of the Doc to create the list of action items.

Simplify writing Brain generates content that's easier to read. 

After Brain responds

The following table describes the actions available after Brain responds:

Replace with this answer Replace the original text with Brain's answer. 
Insert below Click to insert the content below the original text.
Copy Copy the content to manually paste it. 
Save & continue in Ask AI Save the generated content and continue to work in the ClickUp Brain modal on the right.
Back Return to the Improve or Edit menu. 
Create items In some locations, you can also create a task or a Doc with the generated content.
