Write with ClickUp AI

ClickUp AI is currently available in task descriptions and comments, email, Docs, Inbox, the toolbar, Notepad, Chat view, and Chat Dashboard cards. 

Write with AI is a tool that allows you to enter custom prompts in multiple languages.

What you'll need

  • ClickUp AI is available for purchase on all paid plans.
    • We ensure optimal performance and fair use for all of our customers. Your access to ClickUp AI may be reduced depending on usage.
  • Free Forever plans can’t purchase AI.
  • All plans can access our free AI trial. Free trial usage varies by plan:
    • Free Forever: 25 uses
    • Unlimited and Business: 50 uses
    • Business Plus and Enterprise: 100 uses
  • Members and internal guests can use AI. You’ll be charged $5 per member and internal guest per month.
  • ClickUp AI is not available for HIPAA-compliant Workspaces.
  • ClickUp AI is not available in the following countries:
    • China
    • Cuba
    • Hong Kong
    • Iran
    • North Korea
    • Russia
    • Syria

Write with AI

Use AI to write about anything. Use clear, concise language and specify a format, List or blog post for example. 

Press the Esc key at any time to close the Write with AI modal. 

To write with AI:

  1. Open a location and type /ai.

    This command opens the ClickUp AI modal, where you can also access AI Tools.

  2. From the modal, select Write with AI.
  3. Type your topic into the Write with AI modal.
  4. Click the Enter icon.
  5. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Insert: Insert the content into your task or Doc.
    • Edit Inputs: Edit the prompt you provided.
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Generate a different response from the same prompt.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.

Create a task or Doc using Write with AI

You can create an AI-generated task or Doc from the toolbar in ClickUp 3.0 in two ways:

  • From the toolbar's AI modal.
  • From the the toolbar's Create item modal.

The generated content becomes the task description, or the body of the Doc.

To write with AI from the AI modal:

  1. From the toolbar, click the AI button. Or press Option + K on Mac, Alt + K on Windows.

  2. Type your topic into the Write with AI modal. You can also edit the content using the following options:
    • Edit Inputs: Edit the prompt you provided.
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Generate a different response from the same prompt.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.
  3. Click Create Task or Create Doc

To write with AI from the Create item modal:

  1. From the toolbar, click the + New button.
  2. From the Create item modal, select the Task or Doc tab.

    You can also select the Chat tab and use the /Slash Command /ai.

  3. Select Write with AI.

  4. Type something into the the Talking points text box.
  5. Select a tone of voice and a level of creativity. You can also edit the content using the following options:
    • Insert: Insert the content into your task or Doc.
    • Edit Inputs: Edit the prompt you provided.
    •  Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Generate a different response from the same prompt. 
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.
  6. Click Create Task or Create Doc
    • Your Doc is private by default, click the Private toggle to make the Doc public.
