Use @mentions

You can @mention a person or item in most places in ClickUp where text is accepted. For example, in AI prompt fields, task descriptions, task comments, Channels, direct messages, Notepad, and when replying to a comment from Inbox.

Once a task or Doc is archived, you won't be able to mention it.

@mention Super Agents

Use a Super Agent's name to @mention it when they have the Mention trigger activated in task comments and Chat Channels. They'll respond in a threaded reply, following their instructions, and using their assigned tools and available knowledge.

@mention Brain

Quickly open Brain Assistant from task comments and chat messages to summarize the context, take action, or to craft the perfect reply. Simply press the Space bar, or type @brain.

@mention external AI Agents

You can @mention an external AI Agent to trigger its functions. For example, you can @mention Codegen to generate code for you!

@mention people

There are several ways to @mention people:

  • Type @, followed by a person or Team's initials.
    • Or, if it's available you can click the @ icon and select the People tab.
  • Type @assignees to @mention all assignees.
  • Type @followersto @mention all followers.
  • If you're in a Channel, you can use @everyone or @followers to notify all Followers.
    • You cannot use @everyone or @followers in thread replies.
    • People who are @mentioned this way will not become Followers of the thread unless they reply or manually choose to follow it.

Depending on your notification settings, you can receive Inbox notifications when you're @mentioned in a comment, task description, or Doc.

When you're @mentioned in Chat, you'll see a red badge next to the Channel or direct message. If you're using ClickUp 4.0, Chat messages you're @mentioned can be accessed from the Chat Activity page.

@mention people in a task

When you @mention a person in a task the following happens:

  • When they're mentioned in a task comment, they become a follower of that task.
  • When they're mentioned in a task description, they will not be added as a follower.
  • When they're mentioned in a task description, they will receive a notification
  • The comment they're mentioned in is highlighted in the task.
  • Their names are highlighted in their Inbox.
  • You can mention people who don't have access to a task. You can set their permission level and invite them to the task. If you choose not to give someone access to the task, they won't be notified that they were mentioned.
