Availability and pricing

AI Custom Fields are currently available to Workspaces with the AI Add-on. Learn more about AI Custom Field availability and limits.

AI Custom Field types

AI Custom Fields are available within Short Text, Text area (Long Text), and Dropdown Custom Fields.

Short Text

The following AI Custom Fields can be generated within Short Text Custom Fields:

  • Sentiment
  • T-shirt Size
  • Custom autofill with AI

Text area (Long Text)

The following AI Custom Fields can be generated within Long Text Custom Fields:

  • Summary
  • Progress Updates
  • Translation
  • Action Items
  • Custom autofill with AI

Dropdown

The following AI Custom Fields can be generated within Dropdown Custom Fields:

Custom autofill with AI

Create your own custom AI field from scratch!

When creating a custom field, you can use the following field variables in your prompt:

  • Assignee
  • Checklists
  • Custom Fields
  • Date created
  • Date done
  • Date updated
  • Due date
  • Priority
  • Sprint Points
  • Start date
  • Status
  • Tags
  • Task Description
  • Task ID
  • Task Name
  • Type

Summary

Spend more time on work and less time reading through task descriptions, attachments, and conversations. Summary fields provide a clear, concise overview of your tasks.

Need to view your team backlog without opening tens or hundreds of tasks individually? Use the Summary AI field in your List views to summarize tasks in your Space, Folder, or List.

When creating the field, you can choose from the following formats:

  • Bulleted list: Task summary highlights in a bulleted list.
  • Short: A concise task summary.
  • Traditional: A detailed, longer task summary.

Progress Updates

Save time searching through tasks and comments for updates. Need to know if your new feature will be complete by its deadline? Use the Progress Updates AI field to create a progress update for tasks in a Space, Folder, or List.

Progress is estimated based on the stages other similar tasks went through before reaching completion.

When creating the field, you can choose your progress time frame:

  • Today
  • Yesterday
  • This week
  • Last 24 hours
  • Last 3 days
  • Last 7 days
  • Last 30 days

You can choose from the following formats:

  • Bulleted list: Task progress highlights in a bulleted list.
  • Short: A concise task progress update.
  • Traditional: A detailed, longer task progress update.

Sentiment

Learn which tasks are going well and which can be improved.

Need to respond to feedback from your support team? Want to take action on gaps that have been identified by your team? Use the Sentiment AI field in a Space, Folder, or List to gauge task sentiment as positive, neutral, or negative using task descriptions, Custom Fields, and comments.

Translation

Save time switching between apps and translate tasks directly from your views!

Need to translate a support ticket from an international client? Want to translate tasks for a colleague in another country? Use the Translation AI field to translate task names or descriptions in the Space, Folder, or List.

When creating the field, you can choose to translate the task title or description into one of the following preselected languages:

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • Dutch
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
  • Swedish
  • Other
    • This option allows you to input any language using a Custom autofill with AI field.

Action Items

Use the Action Items field to quickly see what needs to be done.

Need to create some follow-ups for the task you're working on? Use the Action Items AI field to generate context-sensitive action items from tasks and their content in the Space, Folder, or List.

Action items can quickly be copied to your clipboard by hovering over the field and clicking the Copy text icon.

T-Shirt Size

View your estimated workload without switching views or locations in your Workspace! Use the T-Shirt Size AI field to quickly size tasks in the Space, Folder, and List.

T-shirt sizing is an effective way for agile teams to estimate the effort and size of projects.

T-shirt size is generated using task data and contextual information from its List.

Categorize

Use AI to quickly categorize tasks using the Categorize Dropdown Custom Field.

Need to categorize all the feature requests or bugs in your List? Use the Categorize AI field so you can spend your time on more important tasks.

When creating a Categorize AI field, you can leave the instructions area blank and let ClickUp Brain quickly categorize your tasks. Or, you can add more detail by including custom instructions with any of the following field variables:

  • Assignee
  • Checklists

Generate content with AI Custom Fields

Once you've created your AI Custom Field, you can generate the field content from List view, Table view, and Task view.

Generate content for an individual field

Click the AI button anywhere the field is displayed to generate content.

After generating a single field, you can save the content, retry the request, and leave feedback on the content using the options below the content.

Generate content for multiple fields

You can manually or automatically generate content for multiple fields at once.

Manually generate content for multiple fields

If you're in List or Table view, you can generate content for entire columns by clicking the AI button in the AI field's column header.

You can edit the prompt, generate or regenerate data, or disable AI by clicking the column header and selecting Edit AI settings.

Automatically generate content for multiple fields

You can automate AI field updates in List or Table views at the List level of your Hierarchy.

If an AI field is added to multiple Lists, you'll need to enable automatic updates individually in each List.

To automatically generate content:

  1. Click the AI field's column header.
  2. Select Create automation.
  3. Enable Automate updates.

Try in view

Test any AI Custom Field in your List or Table view by generating content for the first three tasks.

To try AI in a List or Table view:

  1. Add the AI Custom Field to the view.
  2. Click the AI field's column header.
  3. Select Edit AI settings.
  4. Click Edit prompt.
  5. Select Try in view.

Create an AI Custom Field

You can create an AI Custom Field from the Custom Field Manager, a List or Table view, Task view, or when creating a new Text or Dropdown Custom Field.

From the Custom Field Manager

To create an AI Custom Field from the Custom Field Manager:

  1. Open the Custom Field Manager
  2. From the Custom Field Manager sidebar, select a location.
    • Your selected location in the Sidebar determines which location your Custom Field is added to. For example, if you select All Custom Fields or Workspace the new Custom Field will be added at the Workspace level. You can also select a specific Space, Folder, or List. 
  3. In the upper-right corner, click Create new field.
  4. Select the AI Custom Field.

  5. Customize the field. Customization options vary by field type.
    • If you're creating the field at the List level, you can automate updates by enabling Auto refresh when tasks update. Updates occur five minutes after the last task update. If a task is edited during that time, the five minute timer restarts.
  6. In the lower-right corner, click Create.

From a List or Table view

To create an AI Custom Field from List view or Table view:

  1. In the Space, Folder, or List you want to add the Custom Field, open the List or Table view.
  2. In the upper-right corner above the task table, click the plus icon.
  3. Search for and select the AI Custom Field.
  4. Customize the field. Customization options vary by field type.
    • If you're creating the field at the List level, you can automate updates by enabling Auto refresh when tasks update.
  5. In the lower-right corner, click Create.

From a Task view

To create an AI Custom Field from Task view:

  1. In the List where you want to add the Custom Field, open a task.
  2. Scroll down to the Custom Fields section and click the plus icon in the upper-right corner of the table.
  3. Select Create field.

  4. Search for and select the AI Custom Field.

    • If you're creating the field at the List level, you can automate updates by enabling Auto refresh when tasks update.
  6. In the lower-right corner of the modal, click Create.

From a Text or Dropdown Custom Field

When creating a Text, Text area (Long Text), or Dropdown Custom Field:

  1. Enable Fill with AI.
  2. Customize the field. Customization options vary by field type.
    • If you're creating the field at the List level, you can automate updates by enabling Auto refresh when tasks update.
  3. In the lower-right corner of the modal, click Create.

AI Custom Field templates

There are several templates you can use to implement AI Custom Fields into your workflow.

By default, each AI Custom Field uses its own template. For example, Summary Custom Fields use the summary template unless changed.

Use AI Custom Fields in Automations

You can use AI Custom Fields as Triggers or Conditions in Automations!

To create an Automation using AI Custom Fields:

  1. In the Space, Folder, or List, click the AI Custom Field's header.
  2. Select Create automation.
  3. In the Automations modal, complete your Automation.

Add an existing AI Custom Field to a new location

You can add an existing AI Custom Field to a new location in the same way you would any Custom Field.
