Prompting best practices for ClickUp AI
You connect with most of our AI features through Brain Assistant.
This article covers writing your own prompts and the ClickUp AI tools that make these best practices quick and easy!
Use natural language
Pretend you're having a conversation with someone on your team. Talk to Brain Assistant like a person, not a search engine.
You: Can you identify my overdue tasks and suggest a priority order for them?
Brain Assistant: Sure! Let me check your Workspace.
Here are the overdue tasks:
- Task A: Due last week
- Task B: Due yesterday
- Task C: Due this morning
I suggest prioritizing Task B as it impacts the upcoming deadline.
Specify exclusions
Task C was due this morning. It's a Marketing task and is not as urgent as the others. You can ask Brain Assistant to exclude this task.
You: Please exclude tasks related to Marketing as they aren't urgent.
Brain Assistant: Understood! Excluding Marketing tasks, here are the remaining overdue tasks:
- Task A: Due last week
- Task B: Due yesterday
Clarify the response structure
You want to ensure that you work on the highest priority task first.
You: Can you structure the response in a bulleted list from highest priority to lowest?
Brain Assistant: Here are your tasks in order of priority:
- Task B: High priority, due yesterday
- Task A: Medium priority, due last week
Ask Brain Assistant to summarize
You open Task B and see a 15-page Doc and dozens of comment threads.
Using these built-in prompts, you can ask Brain Assistant to summarize:
You open the Doc and click Summarize.
Brain Assistant concisely summarizes the 15-page Doc in a couple of paragraphs. AI mentions the Doc contains an example from your teammate, Avery.
You: Can you post Avery's example?
Brain Assistant finds and posts Avery's example.
You create a Doc with AI containing Avery's example and get to work!
Create an update
Leadership wants to ensure you're on track to finish this high-priority task. Instead of bothering you while you're working, they ask Brain Assistant to write an update on your progress today.
They don't have to track down your task. They click your Profile, and Brain Assistant with a bulleted list of your progress.
