What's different in ClickUp 4.0?

ClickUp 4.0 has convergence at the core, bringing together tasks, Chat, Docs, and over 20 other apps in a single AI-powered Workspace. The mission of ClickUp 4.0 is to eliminate work sprawl, streamline how work gets done, and maximize human productivity.

Navigation

This table shows the ClickUp 4.0 navigation changes:

Sidebar

The Sidebar is now Global Navigation, which includes:

  • Home sidebar
  • Planner
  • Spaces Sidebar
  • AI Hub
  • Pinnable Hubs
  • App Center, featuring third-party integrations, Connected Search, and ClickApps
Inbox, Chat, and Favorites were in different locations.

Your Home Sidebar now includes these expandable, customizable sections:

  • Inbox
  • Chat
  • Favorites
  • Spaces
  • New custom sections
These pages were accessible from Chat:
  • Replies
  • Assigned Comments (formerly FollowUps)
  • Chat Activity
  • Drafts & Sent
  • Posts
  • All Channels
These pages are now at the top of your Home Sidebar. All pages except Replies can be pinned or unpinned. 
Spaces, Folders, and Lists were in the Sidebar

Spaces, Folders, and Lists are now in: 

  • The Spaces section of Home Sidebar
  • The pinnable Spaces Sidebar
Home Home is now named My Tasks.
Everything view Everything view is now named All Tasks.

Chat

This table shows the 4.0 updates to Chat:

Chat page Chat is integrated into your Home Sidebar and the new Chat Sidebar.
ClickUp3.0ClickUp New: Schedule Chat messages to send later.
  New: Chat Channel messages can be sent using an email address unique to that Channel. 
  New: Chat messages can be saved for later. They are sent to Inbox's Later tab.
  New: Cards can be added to your Chat Channels to surface bookmarks, notes, and more.
FollowUps The FollowUps page is now named Assigned Comments and includes both messages and comments from across your Workspace.

Home

This table shows the ClickUp 4.0 updates and additions to Home, which is now named My Tasks:

Home Home is now named My Tasks and includes the cards that were available in Home in ClickUp 3.0.
Home was opened from the Sidebar. The My Tasks page is opened from the Home Sidebar.
Home displayed customizable cards on a single page. The My tasks page displays customizable cards on a single page.
 

New: The My Tasks tab in the Home sidebar expands to show these three subpages:

  • Assigned to me
  • Today & Overdue
  • Personal List

Favorites

This table shows the 4.0 updates to Favorites:

Favorites were in the Sidebar. Favorites are now in your Home Sidebar.

Items that could be added to Favorites:

Your favorites were displayed in the Sidebar and could be pinned to the top of your Workspace, below the toolbar.

You can now pin these items to the top of your Workspace, below the toolbar:

  • Spaces, Folders, and Lists
  • Tasks
  • Docs
  • Dashboards
  • Whiteboards
  • Forms
Docs and tasks could be minimized to your Tray.

Your Tray is now named pin to bottom

Docs and tasks can also be pinned to the bottom of your Workspace.

Hubs and Teams Hub

Now newly designed Teams, Docs, Dashboards, Whiteboards, Forms, and Clips Hubs have a sidebar with these sections:

  • Private

Each filter displays as a cleaner table that can be further filtered in multiple ways.

Tasks

This table shows the ClickUp 4.0 updates to tasks:

Custom Fields, subtasks, assigned comments, checklists, and attachments sections were always expanded or shown in tabs. Custom Fields, subtasks, assigned comments, checklists, and attachments sections are now collapsible.
Relationships were in the right sidebar. Relationships are now in a collapsible section under the task description and in the right sidebar.
Quick links to sections were below the task description. Quick links to sections are now above the task title.
The right sidebar was always displayed on the far right. The right sidebar icons are now simplified and displayed to the left of the right sidebar.
Comments and emails from tasks are sent immediately. New: You can schedule comments, replies, and emails from tasks to be sent at a later date and time.

Reminders

This table shows the ClickUp 4.0 updates to reminders:

Reminders were sent to Home.
Reminders are now sent to your Inbox.
 
You can continue to create and view legacy reminders from the reminders or My Work card in My Tasks. Legacy reminders will eventually be deprecated.
Reminders did not have descriptions. When creating a standalone reminder, a description can now be added.
Reminders were shared between Workspaces. Now reminders only exist in the Workspace where they were created.

Inbox

This table shows the 4.0 updates to the Inbox:

Inbox was in the Sidebar. Inbox is now in your Home sidebar.
Snoozed tab The Snoozed tab is now named Later.
  New: Chat messages and comments that are saved for later are sent to your Inbox's Later tab.
Reminders were sent to Home. Now reminders are sent to the Inbox.

Location header

This table shows the ClickUp 4.0 updates to the location header:

From a location header, a location could be added to your favorites.  Locations can now be added to your favorites, a custom section in your Home sidebar, or pinned to the top of your Workspace. 
  New: From a location header the Location settings menu and Create new menus can now be accessed.

The toolbar and Quick Action menu

Items could be created from the New button in the toolbar. The New button is now named Create and is on the right side of the toolbar.
The Quick Action menu was in the toolbar. The Quick Action Menu is now named Personal tools and can be pinned to the toolbar from your personal avatar menu.

AI Hub

This table describes the new AI Hub:

  New: The AI Hub is a full-page version of Brain Assistant available from anywhere in ClickUp. Located in your Global Navigation, the full-page AI Hub can be expanded or collapsed.

Personal Calendar

Personal Calendar Personal Calendar is now named the Planner.
Personal calendar was accessed from the toolbar. In addition to the toolbar, the Planner can now be accessed from your Global Navigation.

SyncUps

In ClickUp 3.0 and ClickUp 4.0, when a SyncUp is started from a direct message or someone is manually invited to a Channel SyncUp, invitees see a pop-up on their screen accompanied by a ringing sound.

Docs

Settings pages were opened by clicking icons in the right sidebar. The right sidebar icons now align with the new task view design.
The comments icon was in the upper-right corner. The comments icon is now in the right sidebar.
The Doc settings and page settings menus were separate. The settings menu has a toggle to switch between Doc and Page settings.

ClickUp link previews

Task previews included these details:

  • Location

Task link previews are now displayed as a table that includes these details: 

  • Task type
  • Due date
  • Location
  • Name
  • Status

  • Assignees
To see the entire comment, the task would need to be opened from the comment link preview. Task comment link previews can now be expanded to show the entire comment without opening the task.
Doc link previews showed the location of the Doc.

Doc link previews are now displayed as an image that includes these details:

  • Name
  • Location
  • Date and time of last edit

Scheduling features

This table describes our new scheduling features:

These new scheduling features are available in both ClickUp 3.0 and ClickUp 4.0:
  • New: The Duration ClickApp allows you to set and maintain start and due dates on tasks based on how long they'll take.
  • New: The Skip Non-Working Days ClickApp allows you to schedule tasks around non-working days, including Workspace-wide schedules and holidays.

Workload view
