Preview ClickUp links

See live, synced link previews when you paste ClickUp links in your Workspace.

Link previews are available on every ClickUp Plan to all user roles.

Link preview types

There are two types of link previews that can be used:

  • Inline links: See the item or location's name presented neatly alongside your text. You can hover over the inline link for a larger preview.

  • Previews: See a detailed preview of the item or location. Details vary by link type.

ClickUp link preview preferences

When you paste a link mid-sentence or within existing text, it will default to Inline.

When you paste a link on a new line, you can choose which type of preview to use. By default, the last preview type you chose for that type of link is selected.

Link previews generate in task descriptions, comments, Docs, and Chat messages. To manually change a link preview type, hover over it and click the ellipsis … icon.

Inline links

Inline links are available for the following items and locations:

Previews

Previews are available for the following items and locations:

  • Tasks and subtasks
  • Comments
  • Messages
  • Docs
  • Whiteboards
  • Content blocks

Task and subtask previews

Task and subtask previews include the following information:

  • Task name
  • Task type and location
  • Status
  • Assignees
  • Due date
  • Priority

To open the task or subtask, click anywhere in the link preview.

Copy the task or subtask's link, open it in a new tab, or copy its task ID by hovering over the preview and clicking the options in the upper-right corner.

Comment previews

Comment previews include the following information:

  • Comment author
  • Date or time posted
  • Preview of the comment's content
  • The Show more button, allowing you to expand the entire comment
  • Comment location

To open the comment, click anywhere in the link preview.

Copy the comment's link, open it in a new tab, convert the preview to an inline link, or delete the preview by hovering over it and clicking the options in the upper-right corner.

Message previews

Chat message previews include the following information:

  • Message author
  • Date or time posted
  • Preview of the message's content
  • Message location

Click the message to open it.

You can open the message in a new tab, copy its link, revert it to a regular URL, or delete the preview by hovering over the preview and clicking the new tab icon, link icon, or ellipsis ... icon in the upper-right corner.

Doc previews

Docs that were created at a Hierarchy location in your Workspace have previews that include the following information:

  • A live, visual preview of the Doc
  • Doc name
  • Doc location
  • Date and time of last edit

To open the Doc, click anywhere in the link preview.

Copy the Doc's link, open it in a new tab, convert the preview to an inline link, or delete the preview by hovering over it and clicking the options in the upper-right corner.

Whiteboard previews

Whiteboard previews show an embed of the Whiteboard.

Artifact previews

Artifact previews include the following information:

  • The artifact name
  • A visual preview of the first page

Content block previews

Content block previews display the following information:

  • A preview of the text. To see the full block, click Show more.
  • The location of the content block.
