Task durations
Use task durations to determine how long a task will take to complete.
Set any two of the following fields on a task, and ClickUp will automatically set the third:
- Duration
- Start Date
- Due Date
If you have dependencies and durations set up on all your tasks, you can set the start date on the first task, and ClickUp will automatically schedule all the dependent tasks in your project.
Use durations in templates
You can include task durations in templates to make setting up new projects easy.
For templates created before enabling the Duration ClickApp, you will need to update the existing template to include durations on tasks.
Set a work schedule for your Workspace
Set custom non-working days for your organization.
Skip non-working days
When you're scheduling tasks, ClickUp will automatically skip non-working days.
For example, you create a new task and set the start date to May 1st, and duration to 10 days.
With the Skip Non-Working Days ClickApp activated, ClickUp will automatically set the due date to May 14th.
If the task requires continuous progress, you can use an elapsed duration to include non-working days. With an elapsed duration, ClickUp will automatically set the due date to May 10th.
Reschedule Dependencies
The Reschedule Dependencies ClickApp automatically keeps your dependent tasks up-to-date when blocking tasks are completed or delayed.
When tasks are connected with a dependency relationship, and the due date of a blocking task is updated, ClickUp automatically adjusts the start and due dates of any tasks waiting on the blocking task.
Remap subtask due dates
If you use subtasks to organize your work, activate the Remap subtask due dates ClickApp.
Updating a parent task due date will also update subtask dates by the same amount, honoring the duration set on the task and subtasks.
Use scheduling features to plan a project
Use our scheduling features to quickly spin up a new project and automatically calculate start and due dates:
- Activate of all the scheduling ClickApps:
- Duration
- Skip Non-Working Days
- Reschedule Dependencies
- Create a new List for your project.
- Add tasks to represent the main work items, and subtasks for smaller pieces of work.
- Set durations based on how long it will take to complete each task and subtask.
-
Set blocking and waiting on dependencies between all the tasks in the project.
Make sure there are no gaps in the dependencies between tasks.
- Lastly, set either the start or due date on the first task in the dependency chain.
Based on the durations and dependencies, ClickUp will fill in the remaining start and due dates for all the tasks in the project!
When dates change
As the dates shift on the project, you can easily update any task in the project and ClickUp will automatically adjust the other dependent tasks accordingly, respecting the duration set on tasks and skipping or including non-working days.
