Comments are one of the most powerful tools for collaboration.
Ask questions, get feedback, approve requests, track wins, and format with rich text, embeds, and attachments. Use comments on tasks, Docs, and attachments using Proofing.
Not sure where to start? Click the plus icon when drafting a new comment to add a content block or set text formatting.
What you'll need
- Unlimited comments are available on all ClickUp plans.
- Guests can use comments.
- Scheduling task comments is available on the Business Plus Plan and above.
Comment on a task
To comment on a task:
- Open the task.
- In the lower-right corner, click the comment field.
- Type your comment or use Talk to Text to transcribe your voice.
- Press

Comment on a Doc
To comment on a Doc:
- Open the Doc.
- Highlight some text and click Comment.
- Type your comment or use Talk to Text to transcribe your voice.

@mention Brain in a Doc comment for a summary, feedback, or to answer your questions.
Draft a comment using Talk to Text
When drafting a comment, you can use Talk to Text to transcribe your voice.
To use Talk to Text in a comment:
- When drafting your comment, click the microphone icon to start recording your voice.
- When you've finished speaking, click Transcribe. To cancel the recording, click the x icon.
- Make any final additions or edits to your draft.
- Press

Assign comments
Assign a comment to create a new required action item for the assignee to complete before the task can be closed.
To assign a comment:
- Hover over a comment to display the assign icon.
- Search for and select a person.
Mention people in comments
Mention individuals or Teams in comments. Mention @brain to open Brain.
To mention people in a comment:
- While drafting a comment, type
@. - Search for and select the person.
- After you send the comment, they will be notified of it.
Threaded comments
Organize your task, image, and Doc comments by nesting your replies with threaded comments.
Threaded comments start a completely new conversation underneath a parent comment for a more focused discussion.
If you don't want to use threaded comments, an owner or admin can deactivate the ClickApp.
Reply using ClickUp Brain AI
Workspaces with Brain AI can use AI to reply to task comments.
To reply using Brain AI:
- Click Reply on a comment.
- Type
/AIin the reply section, type@brain, or click the AI icon in your draft to open Brain. - Select Write.
- Select a prompt and enter a topic. Or write your own. Learn how to write effective Brain AI prompts !
- Press
Returnon Mac,Enteron PC, or click the send icon. - After AI responds, you have the following choices:

Copy the content and paste it manually into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text. |
| Save & continue in Ask AI | Click to open Brain. The response will be in the Brain modal. |

Record a Clip from a task comment
Share videos or voice messages by recording a Clip or Voice Clip when creating or replying to a task comment.
Quote or copy comments
Highlight comment text to quote or copy it.
Organize conversations by quoting specific parts of a comment in a threaded reply. This is useful for addressing multiple questions or high activity in a task. You can also copy any part of a comment.
To quote or copy a comment:
- Highlight the text in the comment.
- Click Quote or Copy.
- Quoted text will populate in a threaded reply.
- Copied text can be pasted into a new location.
Ask AI from a comment
Highlight comment text to ask AI about it.
To quote or copy a comment:
- Highlight the text in the comment.
- Click Ask AI.
Use rich text formatting
Provide as much information as possible to ensure clear expectations and efficient task completion.
Click and drag your cursor over text while creating a comment to reveal your editing choices.
You can also:
- Embed
- Attach files
- Tag other users
- Mention another task
- Use emojis
Create tasks from comments
To create tasks or subtasks from comments:
- Highlight text in a comment to open the rich text toolbar.
- From the rich text toolbar, select the + Task icon.

Copy a comment link
To copy a comment link:
- Open a task or Doc with comments.
- Hover over a comment and click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Click Copy URL.
Paste comment links outside of ClickUp
Share direct comment links in any app. Users with task access in ClickUp will be directed to the comment.
React to comments
Use reactions to comments to express feelings and quickly acknowledge task updates.
To react to a comment:
- In the lower-left corner of the comment, click the emoji icon.
- Select an emoji.
Set comment reminders
Too many notifications? Turn comments into reminders! The reminder will live in your Inbox and display on the date you select.
To create a reminder from a comment:
- In the upper-right corner of the comment, click the ellipsis... icon.
- Select Remind me.

- From the rich text toolbar, select Comment.

View, add, or resolve Doc comments by clicking the comment icon in the upper right corner of the Doc.
- Open a Doc.
- Click the comment icon in the upper-right corner of the Doc.
