Subfolders are an optional part of the ClickUp Hierarchy, allowing for granular customization and enabling complex workflows.
Unlike Lists, Subfolders and their parent Folders do not directly contain tasks, but they can contain multiple Lists.
Folders can hold both Subfolders and Lists.

Nesting Subfolders
You cannot create Subfolders within other Subfolders.
Subfolders are currently limited to one level of nesting. In other words, you can have a Subfolder inside of a parent Folder, but you cannot create another Subfolder within that Subfolder.

You can create a Subfolder from scratch or convert an existing Folder to a Subfolder.
Subfolder permissions
Subfolders inherit permissions from their parent Folder by default. You can customize each Subfolder's permissions or make them private.
Subfolders can be shared with guests like regular Folders.

Create statuses for your Subfolder
Like the rest of your Hierarchy, you can use custom statuses for Subfolders.
When you create a new Subfolder, you can create custom statuses for it, or inherit its parent Space or Folder's statuses.
A Subfolder can inherit statuses from its parent Folder if the parent Folder has custom statuses enabled. Otherwise, the Subfolder can inherit statuses from its top-level Space.

Automations created at the parent Folder or Space level will affect all tasks in its Lists. This includes Lists inside Subfolders.

Dashboards
Like regular Folders and Lists, you can create Dashboard cards to report on Subfolders.
Cards created at the parent Folder or Space level will include task data from all of its Lists. This includes Lists inside Subfolders.
Overviews
In Space-level Overviews, the Folders card displays both Folders and their Subfolders.
In Folder-level Overviews, the Folders card displays its Subfolders.
Subfolder views
You can create views for Subfolders like you can for any Space, Folder, or List.
Subfolder views will show tasks from all of the Lists inside it.
Views created at the parent Folder or Space level will also include tasks from all of its Lists. This includes Lists inside Subfolders.
