Create a Subfolder
There are multiple ways to create a Subfolder.
From your Home Sidebar
To create a Subfolder from your Home Sidebar in ClickUp 4.0 or Sidebar in ClickUp 3.0:
- Hover over the Folder you want to create a Folder in and click the plus icon.
- Select Folder.
- Name and customize the Folder. You can add a description, update its statuses, use a template, or make it private.
- Click Create.
From a Folder's location header
To create a Subfolder from a Folder's location header:
- Open any view in a Folder.
- At the top, right-click the Folder name in ClickUp 4.0 or click the ellipsis ... icon in ClickUp 3.0.
- Hover over Create new and select Folder.
- Name and customize the Folder. You can add a description, update its statuses, use a template, or make it private.
- Click Create.
Convert a Folder to a Subfolder
There are multiple ways to convert an existing Folder to a Subfolder.
Using drag and drop
In your Home Sidebar in ClickUp 4.0 or Sidebar in ClickUp 3.0, convert a Folder to a Subfolder by dragging and dropping it into another Folder.
By moving it
To convert a Folder to a Subfolder by moving it:
- In your Home Sidebar in ClickUp 4.0 or Sidebar in ClickUp 3.0, hover over the Folder and click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Alternatively, right-click the Folder.
- Hover over Move.
- Browse for and select a Folder. The Folder you select will become your current Folder's parent.
Convert a Subfolder to a Folder
There are multiple ways to convert an existing Subfolder to a Folder.
Using drag and drop
In your Home Sidebar in ClickUp 4.0 or Sidebar in ClickUp 3.0, convert a Subfolder to a Folder by dragging and dropping it into a Space.
By moving it
To convert a Subfolder to a Folder by moving it:
- In your Home Sidebar in ClickUp 4.0 or Sidebar in ClickUp 3.0, hover over the Subfolder and click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Alternatively, right-click the Subfolder.
- Hover over Move.
- Browse for and select a Space.
- The Subfolder will become a Folder inside the Space you selected.
