Create and edit tasks on the ClickUp mobile app.
What you'll need
- Tasks are available on every ClickUp plan.
- Guests with edit and full edit permissions can create tasks on the mobile app.
- Tasks can have up to 1,000 subtasks, including nested subtasks.
To improve platform performance, this usage limit was implemented in January 2025.
Create a task
You can create tasks from the quick create menu, List view, Board view, and Calendar view.
You can choose to save your draft when exiting the task creation modal.
Quick create menu
To create a task from the quick create menu:
- In the Mobile Navigation bar at the bottom, tap Create.
- Select Task or Create a Task if available.
- Name the task.
- To choose a different location, tap the List name or Select a list above the task name.
The location defaults to the List in which you last created a task.
- Add optional task details.
- Choose what happens after the task is created by tapping the ellipsis ... in the upper-right corner of the task creation modal:
- Create and close: Create the task and close the task creation modal.
- Create and open: Create the task and open it.
- Create and start another: Create the task and reset the task creation modal.
- Create and duplicate: Create the task and keep its content open in the task creation modal.
- Tap Create in the lower-right corner.
- A Task created banner will display at the top of the app. Tap it to open the task.
Mobile users on iOS can also create tasks using Siri.
List view
You can create tasks from List views.
Board view
To create a task from Board view:
- From Board view, swipe to a column.
- The column you create a task in inherits the properties of the column. For example, if the column is an in review status, the newly created task will inherit this status.
- Tap the plus icon next to the column name.
- Name the task.
- Add optional details.
- Choose what happens after the task is created by tapping the ellipsis ... in the upper-right corner of the task creation modal:
- Create and close: Create the task and close the task creation modal.
- Create and open: Create the task and open it.
- Create and start another: Create the task and reset the task creation modal.
- Create and duplicate: Create the task and keep its content open in the task creation modal.
- Tap Create in the lower-right corner.
- A Task created banner will display at the top of the app. Tap it to open the task.
Calendar view
To create a task from Calendar view:
- From Calendar view, tap and hold on a day and time.
- This will be the newly created task's due date.
- Name the task.
- Add optional details.
- Choose what happens after the task is created by tapping the ellipsis ... in the upper-right corner of the task creation modal:
- Create and close: Create the task and close the task creation modal.
- Create and open: Create the task and open it.
- Create and start another: Create the task and reset the task creation modal.
- Create and duplicate: Create the task and keep its content open in the task creation modal.
- Tap Create in the lower-right corner.
- A Task created banner will display at the top of the app. Tap it to open the task.
Create a subtask
To create a subtask on the mobile app:
- Open a task. By default, you'll be in the Details tab.
- Under the Subtasks section, tap + Add Subtask.
- Name the subtask.
- Add optional details.
- Choose what happens after the subtask is created by tapping the ellipsis ... in the upper-right corner of the task creation modal:
- Create and close: Create the subtask and close the task creation modal.
- Create and open: Create the subtask and open it.
- Create and start another: Create the subtask and reset the task creation modal.
- Create and duplicate: Create the subtask and keep its content open in the task creation modal.
- Tap Create in the lower-right corner.
- A Task created banner will display at the top of the app. Tap it to open the subtask.
Optional task details
When creating a task, name and location are required.
There are several other optional details you can choose to include. Details vary depending on which ClickApps are enabled for each Space in your Workspace.
The following optional task details can be added when creating a task:

You can use rich editing and @mentions in your task description!

Create a nested subtask
If the Nested Subtasks ClickApp is enabled in your Workspace, you can create nested subtasks on the mobile app.
To create a nested subtask:
- Open a task. By default, you'll be in the Details tab.
- Under the Subtasks section, tap a subtask to open it.
- Under the Subtasks section of the subtask, tap + Add Subtask.
- Name the nested subtask.
- Add optional details.
- Choose what happens after the nested subtask is created by tapping the ellipsis ... in the upper-right corner of the task creation modal:
- Create and close: Create the nested subtask and close the task creation modal.
- Create and open: Create the nested subtask and open it.
- Create and start another: Create the nested subtask and reset the task creation modal.
- Create and duplicate: Create the nested subtask and keep its content open in the task creation modal.
- Tap Create in the lower-right corner.
- A Task created banner will display at the top of the app. Tap it to open the nested subtask.
