Customize which Chat notifications you receive.
There are two levels of notification settings for Chat:
- Global Chat notifications
- Individual Channel notifications
By default, the Channels you follow will use your global settings, but you can customize each Channel's notifications to your preference.

Global notifications
Browser and mobile notifications are enabled by default.
To customize your global Chat notifications:
- In the lower-right of the Chat sidebar, click the settings icon.
- In the Chat Notifications section, choose your preferences for browser/desktop, mobile, Inbox, and email.
Email notifications from Chat take 30 minutes to be sent. If you read a Chat message on any platform before the email notification is triggered, the email notification won't be sent.
For each type, you can enable or disable the following notifications:
- Replies to threads I'm following: Notifications for replies on threads you follow.
- Messages sent to a Channel: Notifications for parent messages sent to a Channel.
- Messages sent to a Direct Message: Notifications for parent messages sent to a direct message.
- Messages I'm @mentioned in: Notifications for any messages where you are @mentioned.
- Messages assigned to me: Notifications when any messages are assigned to you.
- Resolved messages: Notifications when a message is resolved.
- Reactions: Notifications for reactions to your messages.
- Play sound: Notification sounds. This option is displayed for browser/desktop notifications only.
Channel notifications
To customize an individual Channel's notification settings:
- In the Chat sidebar, right-click the Channel.
- Select Notification settings to open the customization menu.
- Customize the Channel's notifications settings.
- In the lower-right corner, click Save.
After updating and saving new Channel notification settings, you can switch back to the global settings by clicking Revert to global settings in the customization menu.
Mobile notification sounds
You can enable, disable, or manually choose which types of Chat notifications play sounds on your mobile device.
Enable or disable all notification sounds
To enable or disable sound for all mobile Chat notifications, click the speaker icon next to Mobile.
Enable or disable individual notification sounds
To enable or disable sound for individual Chat notifications, click the speaker icon next to each individual notification.
Troubleshoot Chat notifications
If you're missing expected notifications, check the Channel's settings first:
- For Channels with custom notifications, confirm the Channel notification settings are correct.
- For Channels using global settings, confirm the global notification settings are correct.
