Quickly create AI-generated items from Brain Assistant, a task, Inbox, Doc comments, Chat messages, and Voice Clips.

You can also ask ClickUp to create AI-generated subtasks from just a task name!

Create items with Brain Assistant

You'll connect with most of our AI features through Brain Assistant. Brain Assistant is integrated with ClickUp to answer questions, complete actions, and search across your Workspace.

You can create a reminder, Doc, or task with Brain Assistant. 

You can also type a request into the prompt field anywhere in ClickUp that accepts text. For example, you could type: Create a task in the Agency Management Space. Name it Weekly project review. Assign it to Avery and set the status to Ready.

To create items with Brain Assistant:

  1. Open ClickUp AI from the toolbar.
  2. Scroll down and click Create.
  3. Select one of these options:

Brain Assistant will let you know when the task is created and if more info is needed.

Create items using the text toolbar

You can create tasks using the text toolbar from:

  • Task descriptions
  • Task comments
  • Docs
  • Doc comments
  • Chat messages
  • Chat posts
  • Notes cards
  • Notepad

Create tasks from task, Doc, and Inbox comments

You can create a task or subtask from a task, Doc, or an Inbox comment. 

To create a task from a task or an Inbox comment:

  1. Hover in the upper-right corner of the comment.
  2. Click the ClickUp AI icon.
  3. Select Create a task or Create subtasks.

Create a task from Chat messages with ClickUp AI

Create tasks from Chat messages using ClickUp AI! Create action items with rich context without leaving the conversation.

The Chat ClickApp must be activated.

Create subtasks from tasks or subtasks

The option to create a subtask with AI will only be displayed when subtasks can be created. The Suggest subtasks option is not displayed when:

  • The Nested subtasks ClickApp is not enabled.
  • You're at the lowest available level of nested subtasks.

Create tasks and Docs from Voice Clips with ClickUp AI

ClickUp AI can assist you by creating a task or Doc from the transcript. You can also ask AI questions about the content of the Voice Clip!

Optional task settings and actions

After the task is created, you can do the following:

Setting or action Description
Move the task to another location From the task preview in the upper-right corner, click the move icon. 
Open From the task preview in the upper-right corner, click the open icon. Or, below the task preview, click Open. 
Copy link From the task preview in the upper-right corner, click the link icon. Or, below the task preview, click Copy. 
Edit task name The task is automatically named. Click into the task field to update the name. 
Status Click the status badge to change the task status. 
Priority Click the priority icon to change the task Priority.
Assignee Click the assignee icon to assign or reassign the task. 
Try again Generate slightly different content. 
Like or dislike Help us improve ClickUp AI by providing feedback. 
Post to Thread

Click to post a link to the new task to the comment thread.

This is a quick way to acknowledge an action item from a teammate without interrupting your workflow. 
Ask anything about this thread Ask AI something about the comment thread. 
Save & continue in Ask AI 

Click to save the task and open Brain Assistant. The task will be in the Brain Assistant modal in case you need to edit it.

You can also start a new conversation with Brain Assistant by typing something into the prompt field. 
Back Return to the previous menu.
