Quickly create tasks from anywhere in your Workspace.

What you'll need

  • You can create unlimited tasks using quick-create on all plans.
  • Everyone except guests without full permissions can quick-create tasks.

Quick-create from anywhere

You can quick-create tasks from anywhere in your Workspace.

ClickUp 3.0 has introduced several new features and UI updates to enable you create tasks quickly.

Using ClickUp 3.0

If you're using ClickUp 3.0, the create task button is now located in the toolbar at the top-right.

  1. On the toolbar, click New to open the quick create modal.
  2. Choose the home List for your new task, set a task name, and any required Custom Fields.
  3. Set any standard fields, Custom Fields, add dependencies, subtasks, and checklists, apply a template, add attachments, and set watchers before creating a task.
  4. Click Create task.

You can also quickly create tasks from the Command Center.

Using ClickUp 2.0

To create a task, in the lower-right corner, click + Task.

If you have hotkeys enabled, press t to open the quick create modal.

  1. Name the task and select a location for it in your Workspace.
  2. Add optional task details.

    When creating a task from a List view that is grouping tasks by status, there is a Position in List option in the upper-right of the quick create task modal. Once you select a status for your task, you can use this option to choose where the task displays within the group of tasks with the same status.

  3. To load an existing task template, click the wand icon at the bottom of the modal.
  4. Once you've finished drafting, you can click Create task. You can also hover over the caret icon next to Create task to see more task creation options:
    • Create and open: Create the task and open it.
    • Create and start another: Create the task, then populate a new blank task.
    • Create and duplicate: Create the task, then populate another task with the same information.

If you need to save your task as a draft, click the Minimize draft button in the upper-right of the quick create modal. Your task will be sent to the Tray.

You can also quickly create tasks from the Command Center.
