Update Custom Fields from tasks, the Custom Field Manager, and specific views. The details you can edit vary by Custom Field type.
Changes other than location-specific actions apply to all the tasks where the Custom Field is used.
What you'll need
- 60 uses of Custom Fields are available on the Free Forever Plan.
- Unlimited uses are available on all paid plans.
- Individual Custom Fields can be hidden from all guests.
- Guests with edit or full edit permissions can edit existing Custom Fields, but cannot create new ones.
- Custom Field Manager is available on all ClickUp plans.
- Guests can't use the Custom Field Manager.
- On Business Plus and Enterprise Plans, members can access the Custom Field Manager if the Manage Custom Fields custom role permission is enabled for members.
- The options to merge and move Custom Fields are available on the Business Plus and Enterprise Plans.
Edit Custom Fields from a task
To edit Custom Fields from a task:
- Open the task.
- Scroll down to the Custom Fields table and hover over the field you want to edit.
- If you don't see the field, click Show more below the table.
- Click the edit icon.
- Update the Custom Field details. Details vary by field.
- To see additional Custom Field details in the Custom Field Manager, click Advanced settings.
- Changes are automatically saved.
Edit Custom Fields from the Custom Field Manager
You can edit Custom Fields to configure them for everyone in your Workspace. Changes other than location-specific actions apply to all the tasks where the Custom Field is used.
From the Custom Field Manager:
- Click a Custom Field to open the editor.
- Update the field details, including its permissions. Details vary by field type.
- In the lower-right corner, click Save.
You can undo changes made to Custom Fields by clicking undo on the confirmation message displayed after making a change. Once the confirmation message disappears, you can no longer undo the change.
Edit Custom Fields from a List or Table view
You can edit a Custom Field from its column header in List or Table view:
- Click the Custom Field's column header. If you don't see the Custom Field, add it as a column.
You can rename the Custom Field from the top of the column menu. Changes will apply to the Custom Field throughout your Workspace.
- Click Edit field to open the mini editor or Privacy and permissions to update its permissions.
- Update the Custom Field details. Details vary by field.
- To see additional Custom Field details in the Custom Field Manager, click Advanced settings.
- Changes are automatically saved.
