Intro to Custom Field Manager

View, find, and manage all the Custom Fields in your Workspace in one place!

What you'll need

  • Custom Field Manager is available on all ClickUp plans.
  • Guests can't use the Custom Field Manager.
  • On Business Plus and Enterprise Plans, members can access the Custom Field Manager if the Manage Custom Fields custom role permission is enabled for members.
  • The options to merge and move Custom Fields are available on the Business Plus and Enterprise Plan.
  • Individual Custom Fields can be hidden from all guests.
  • You can have a maximum of 3,000 Custom Fields per Workspace.
  • 60 Custom Field uses are available on the Free Forever Plan.
  • Unlimited Custom Field uses are available on paid plans.

Supported Custom Field types

All Custom Field types are available through the Custom Field Manager.

The following Custom Field types do not support the move, merge, or convert options:

  • Files
  • Relationship
  • Relationship Columns
    • This was formerly called Rollup fields
  • Tasks

The options to move, merge, and convert Custom Fields are only available for certain Custom Field types. You can refer to each page of this article to see which Custom Fields are supported for each action.

Access the Custom Field Manager

Workspace owners, admins, or users with the Manage Custom Fields custom role permission can access the Custom Field Manager from various locations throughout ClickUp.

You can access the Custom Field Manager from the following places in ClickUp:

  • Views
  • Workspaces
  • Spaces
  • Folders
  • Lists
  • Tasks

Views

You can access the Custom Field Manager from a List or Table view by either adding a new column or selecting an existing Custom Field.

When adding a column to a List or Table view:

  1. In the upper-right corner of the task table, click the plus icon.Screenshot of the add column option from List view.
  2. Click Use existing field to open the Custom Field Manager.

From a column heading:

  1. Click the column heading of an existing Custom Field.
  2. Click Edit field to open the edit modal.Screenshot of the column heading menu in List view.
  3. Select Advanced Settings to open the Custom Field Manager. 

Workspace

You can access the Custom Field Manager from your Workspace settings menu.

  1. In the upper-left corner, click your Workspace avatar.
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Click Custom Field Manager.

Spaces, Folders, and Lists

You can access the Custom Field Manager from a Space, Folder, or List settings menu:

  1. Hover over the Space, Folder, or List and click the ellipsis ... icon. You can do this in the Sidebar or in the upper-left corner of a view at the location's Hierarchy level.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Click Custom Fields to open the Custom Field Manager.

Tasks

You can open the Custom Field Manager while working on a specific task or subtask.

From a task or subtask:

  1. Click the ellipsis ... icon.
  2. Select Custom Fields.
