Use Notepad to quickly save anything you want to remember. Like meeting notes, a grocery list, or important links.
When you take notes in ClickUp, you can convert them to tasks or Docs! Also, your Notepad is accessible from all your Workspaces.
What you'll need
- Notepad is available on every ClickUp plan.
- Everyone can use Notepad.
- Notes are private, so no one else in your Workspace can see them.
Enable or disable Notepad
The Notepad can be opened from the Quick Action menu and pinned to the toolbar.
To open or pin the Notepad:
- In the upper-right corner of the toolbar, click the grid icon to open the Quick Action menu.
- To open the Notepad, select Notepad.
- To pin the Notepad, in the upper-right corner of the Notepad button hover over Notepad and click the pin icon.
- To unpin, click the pin icon again.
Create a note
Use Notepad as your daily note-taker! By default, today's date displays as the title so it's easy to see when the Note was created. As soon as you open the Note, you can start typing. The Note is saved automatically.
To create a new note:
- Open Notepad and in the lower-left corner, click +New Note.
- Or from anywhere in your Workspace, use the
N
hotkey.
- Or from anywhere in your Workspace, use the
- You can name your Note now or later.
- Start typing.
- Notes save automatically.
Not sure where to start? In an open Note, hover to the left of a line with no text and click the + icon. Add a content block or set text formatting.
Use Notepad across Workspaces
Notepad is connected to your account, not a specific Workspace. If you have multiple Workspaces, Notepad content created in one will be saved to all.
If you need to create something for a specific Workspace, convert your Note to a task or Doc.

Add rich text and attachments
You can add rich text and attachments using /Slash Commands or the text toolbar.
To use the text toolbar:
- Highlight a section of text.
- Select formatting options from the toolbar.
To use /Slash Commands:

You can use checklists in your notes to add simple to-do list items for yourself. This is the perfect way to create a personal action item that doesn't relate to a specific task!
Edit and manage your Notes
In the upper-right corner of an open Notepad are the following options:
- Search: Search your notes by keywords found in the title or description of a note.

Ellipsis ... menu: Click this menu to access the following options:
- Show archived: View and restore archived notes.
- Sort by Recent: Sort notes by most recently created.
In the upper-right corner of an open Notepad or when hovering over an individual note click the ellipsis ... to access these options:
- Rename: Rename your note.
- Convert to task: Convert your note into a task.
- Convert to Doc: Convert your note into a Doc.
- Archive/Unarchive: Archive or unarchive an individual note.

- Deleted notes cannot be recovered.
