Use Notepad

Use Notepad to quickly save anything you want to remember. Like meeting notes, a grocery list, or important links.

When you take notes in ClickUp, you can convert them to tasks or Docs! Also, your Notepad is accessible from all your Workspaces.

What you'll need

  • Notepad is available on every ClickUp plan.
  • Everyone can use Notepad.
  • Notes are private, so no one else in your Workspace can see them.

Enable or disable Notepad

The Notepad can be opened from the Quick Action menu and pinned to the toolbar.

To open or pin the Notepad:

  1. In the upper-right corner of the toolbar, click the grid icon to open the Quick Action menu.
    • To open the Notepad, select Notepad.
    • To pin the Notepad, in the upper-right corner of the Notepad button hover over Notepad and click the pin icon.

    • To unpin, click the pin icon again.

Create a note

Use Notepad as your daily note-taker! By default, today's date displays as the title so it's easy to see when the Note was created. As soon as you open the Note, you can start typing. The Note is saved automatically.

To create a new note:

  1. Open Notepad and in the lower-left corner, click +New Note.
    • Or from anywhere in your Workspace, use the N hotkey.
  2. You can name your Note now or later.
  3. Start typing.
    • Notes save automatically.

Not sure where to start? In an open Note, hover to the left of a line with no text and click the + icon. Add a content block or set text formatting.

Use Notepad across Workspaces

Notepad is connected to your account, not a specific Workspace. If you have multiple Workspaces, Notepad content created in one will be saved to all.

If you need to create something for a specific Workspace, convert your Note to a task or Doc

Use ClickUp AI

AI is available everywhere in ClickUp text can be used. Use AI to write, edit, or translate your Notepad content.
Take a look at our Intro to ClickUp Brain article for more info on purchasing and using AI.

Add rich text and attachments

You can add rich text and attachments using /Slash Commands or the text toolbar.

To use the text toolbar:

  1. Highlight a section of text.
  2. Select formatting options from the toolbar.

To use /Slash Commands:

  1. Type /.
  2. Take a look at our Use /Slash Commands article to see the available commands.
    • For example, you can type /attach to add files like images, and videos to your notes.

You can use checklists in your notes to add simple to-do list items for yourself. This is the perfect way to create a personal action item that doesn't relate to a specific task!
