Edit task statuses to perfect your workflow.
When deleting a status from a Space, Folder, or List, you'll be prompted to update any tasks and Automations that currently use that status.
If the statuses you want to edit are inherited from a higher Hierarchy location, you can navigate to that location to edit the statuses or choose to use custom statuses.
What you'll need
- Owners, members, and admins can create, edit, and delete statuses by default.

Business Plus and Enterprise Plans can use advanced permissions to control if members and guests can create, edit, and delete statuses.
- You'll need both the Delete Items and Edit Statuses advanced permissions to delete statuses.

Edit statuses in ClickUp 4.0
There are multiple ways to edit statuses in ClickUp 4.0.
From your Home Sidebar
To edit statuses for a Space, Folder, or List from your Home Sidebar:
- In your Global Navigation, click Home.
- In the Spaces section of your Home Sidebar, hover over the location and click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Alternatively, right-click the location.
- Click List statuses or Task statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From the Spaces Sidebar
To edit statuses for a Space, Folder, or List from the Spaces Sidebar:
- In your Global Navigation, click Spaces.
- If you don't see the item in your Global Navigation, click More and select it.
- To keep the item visible in your Global Navigation, pin it.
- In the Spaces Sidebar, hover over the location and click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Alternatively, right-click the location.
- Click List statuses or Task statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From a status group
To edit statuses from a status group in List view in ClickUp 4.0:
Open the List view.
Ensure you are grouping tasks by status.
To the right of the status name, click the ellipsis ... icon.
Select Edit statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From a status column
If you've added the status column to your List view, you can edit statuses from it in ClickUp 4.0:
- Click the status column's header.
Select Edit statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From Board view
To edit statuses from Board view in ClickUp 4.0:
- Under the Views Bar, click Group and select Status.
- In the upper-right of a status column, click the ellipsis ... icon.
Select Edit statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
Edit statuses in ClickUp 3.0
There are multiple ways to edit statuses in ClickUp 3.0.
From the Sidebar
To edit statuses from the Sidebar:
- Hover over the location and click the ellipsis ... icon
- Click List statuses or Task statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From a status group
To edit statuses from a status group in List view in ClickUp 3.0:
Open the List view.
Ensure you are grouping tasks by status.
To the right of the status name, click the ellipsis ... icon.
Select Edit statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From a status column
If you've added the status column to your List view, you can edit statuses from it in ClickUp 3.0:
- Click the status column's header.
Select Edit statuses.
- From the statuses modal, edit any status by clicking the color, name, or ellipsis ... icon.
From Board view
To edit statuses from Board view in ClickUp 3.0:
- Under the Views Bar, click Group and select Status.
- In the upper-right of a status column, click the ellipsis ... icon.
Select Edit statuses.
