Task comments and Chat now share the same comment experience. Comments in your tasks look and work like Chat messages, and most task history moves to its own Activity panel.
What changed
The Activity panel is now split into two separate panels:
- Comments: All comments, threads, and replies on the task. This panel opens by default.
- Activity: The full task history, such as Custom Field changes and attachments.
Status, assignee, priority, start date, and due date changes still show in the Comments panel. All other task history is in the Activity panel, so conversations are easier to read.

To the right of the task name, details, and description, click the Comments or Activity icon to open each panel.
Use Chat features in task comments
Task comments keep the features they already had, such as threads and reactions.
These Chat features are now available in task comments too:
- Forwarding: forward a comment to a Channel, DM, or another task
- Posts: share important updates as a Post from a task
- Schedule Send: write a comment now and send it later
- Unread indicators: see which comments and threads are new since you last looked
- Formatting: comments use the same formatting as Chat
Reply in a thread
Threads keep replies grouped under the original comment. To reply in a thread:
- Hover over a comment.
- Click Reply in thread.
- Type your reply.
- To also show your reply in the main comment feed, check Also send to task before you send it.
- To close a thread, click the back arrow.
What stays the same
Your existing setup keeps working:
- Existing comments, assigned comments, and attachments stay on your tasks
- Notifications work the same way
- The ClickUp API and your integrations are not affected
Limitations
During rollout, comments on Docs, Dashboards, attachments, and other areas still use the previous comment experience.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the new task comment experience.
Where do I find the task creation date?
It's in the Activity panel. Open a task, then click the Activity icon.
Do Posts created from a task show up in the location's Channel or on the Posts page?
Not yet. Posts created from a task currently appear only on that task. We're working on showing them in the Channel and on the Posts page too.
Where did the rest of the task history go?
Everything that used to show inline with comments, except status, assignee, priority, start date, and due date changes, now lives in the Activity panel.
Do I need the Chat ClickApp enabled to use these features?
No. The new task comment experience works whether or not Chat is enabled in your Workspace.
