Reply to a channel thread

To reply to a thread in a Channel:

1. Hover over the message.
2. In the message toolbar, click the reply icon.
   
3. Type your message. You can use rich text formatting, add attachments, and more.
   • Optional: You can @mention all Channel Followers by including @everyone or @followers in your message.
4. Press Return on Mac or Enter on PC.

Need to make changes to your reply? You can edit sent messages.

Send thread replies to channels

Send your reply to a thread's Channel.

When sending a reply

When drafting a thread reply, click the Also send to checkbox to have it sent in both the thread and the thread's Channel.

From an existing message

If you've already replied to a thread, you can still send the message to the Channel:

1. Right-click your thread reply, or hover over your thread reply and click the ellipsis ... icon
2. Select Send reply to Channel or Send reply to conversation.

Your original reply stays in the thread, where it's labeled Also sent to the channel. A copy of the reply appears at the bottom of the parent Channel or conversation feed. The copy is labeled Replied to a thread and includes a Go to the thread link. It shows the reply's text and the time the reply was sent.

When the thread has newer replies, the copy displays View newer replies so you can continue in the thread.

To remove your reply from the Channel, right-click your reply and select Remove reply from Channel.

Reply to a direct message thread

To reply to a thread in a direct message:

1. Hover over the message.
2. In the message toolbar, click the reply icon.
3. Type your message. You can use rich text formatting, add attachments, and more.
   • Optional: In addition to the thread, send your reply to the broader direct message or group direct message conversation by clicking the Also send as direct message checkbox.
4. Press Return on Mac or Enter on PC.

Quote a message in your reply

In channel threads or direct messages, you can reply to a specific message inline in the main feed instead of opening a nested thread.

The quote shows the original author and links back to the source message. You can include only one quoted message per reply.

In channels, you can only quote messages inside threads. Top-level channel messages can't be quoted.

To quote a message in your reply:

1. Hover over the message.
2. Click the Quote in reply icon.
   • If your Workspace has the Threaded Comments ClickApp is deactivated, click the reply icon.
3. Type out and send your reply.
