Add helpful context to conversations by creating tasks from Chat messages or relating existing tasks to Chat messages. Whether you create a new task or relate an existing one, the connected task will be accessible from the message.

Create tasks from messages

To create a new task from a message:

1. In any Channel or direct message, hover over the message and click the Create Task button.
   
2. Search for and select a List, or let AI choose a List by clicking Automatic.
3. The task will display above the message and be posted in the thread. A pop-up will briefly display in the lower-left corner with options to open the task or copy a link to it.
   

You cannot create tasks from threaded replies.

Open the connected task

To open the connected task, click it.

Copy the connected task

Copy the task by clicking the expand icon on the right and selecting Copy, or pressing C if you have keyboard shortcuts enabled.

Disconnect the task

When you disconnect a task created from a message, they will no longer be connected, but the task will continue to exist.

To disconnect a task:

1. To the right of the task name, click the expand icon.
2. Select Disconnect Task.

Update the status, assignee, or location of the connected task

To update the status, assignee, or location of a task created from a message:

1. Hover over the message and click the reply icon.
2. The thread will open on the right with the task details at the top.
   
3. Click the status or assignee to update it, or the List to open it.

Relate tasks to messages

When a new task doesn't need to be created, you can still add helpful context to the conversation by connecting an existing task.

Add context to a thread by relating a task to a message:

1. Hover over the message.
2. Click the ellipsis ... icon and select Add relationship.
3. Search for and select a task.

The number of related tasks displays above each message. Click this number to see all related tasks, add additional tasks, or remove related tasks.

Open the connected task

To open the connected task:

1. Above the message, click the number.
2. Click the connected task.

Disconnect the task

To disconnect the task:

1. Above the message, click the number.
2. Hover over the connected task and click the x icon.
