Where are your default and custom sections?

Items can be in multiple sections at once. For example, if you favorite a Channel, it's still in the default Channels section. You can also add it to a custom section.

Default and custom Home Sidebar sections are located below the Home section. 

The default Home Sidebar sections are:

• Favorites
• Channels
• Direct Messages
• Spaces

Create or edit a custom section

You can have up to 100 sections in the Home Sidebar!

There are multiple ways to create a custom section:

From a custom section

To create a custom section from a custom section:

1. Ensure your Home Sidebar filters are cleared. If they're not, you may not see any sections. 
2. Hover over a custom section's name and click the ellipsis ... menu.
3. Select Create section.
   
4. Type a name for your section.
   • You can also click the emoji icon to add an icon to your section.
5. Click Create.

From the Create button

You can create custom sections from the Create button in your Home or Spaces Sidebars.

To create a custom section from the Create button:

1. In your Global Navigation, select Home or Open the Spaces Sidebar.
2. In the upper-right corner of the sidebar, click the plus icon.
3. Select Section.
4. Set the name for your new section.
   • Optionally, click the emoji icon to add an icon.
5. Click Create.

Edit a custom section

To edit a custom section:

1. Ensure your Home Sidebar filters are cleared. If they're not, you may not see any sections. 
2. Next to the section, click the ellipsis... icon.
3. You can enter a new name or click the emoji icon to edit the icon. 
   

Add items to a custom section

There are multiple ways to add an item to a custom section.

From the section

To add an item to a custom section from the section:

1. In your Home Sidebar, hover over the custom section and click the plus icon.
2. Search for and select the item you want to add.

From the Favorite menu

Learn more about adding the Workspace items and locations you use the most to your favorites for quick access. 

In ClickUp 4.0, you can also pin certain items to the top and bottom of your Workspace. Favorites and items pinned to the top and bottom are only visible to you. 

To add an item to a custom section from the Favorite menu:

1. Open the item's ellipsis ... menu. This can be done from your Home Sidebar by hovering over the item or right-clicking it.
2. Hover over Favorite and select the custom section.

What you can add

To see Channels and Direct messages, the Chat ClickApp must be activated in your Workspace.

Remove items from a custom section

To remove an item from a custom section in the Home Sidebar:

1. Ensure your Home Sidebar filters are cleared. If they're not, you may not see any sections. 
2. Under the section name, hover over the item and click the ellipsis... icon.
3. Hover over Favorite.
4. In the Sections section, hover over the item with a checkmark icon.
5. The checkmark becomes an x icon. To remove the item, click the x icon.

Delete a custom section

To delete a custom section:

1. Ensure your Home Sidebar filters are cleared. If they're not, you may not see any sections. 
2. Hover over a custom section's name and click the ellipsis ... menu.
3. Select Delete section.
   • The section is deleted. The items from the deleted section are still in their original sections.
