Set a default task template for Lists

Automatically apply a template to all new tasks created in a List.

Default task templates are automatically applied to tasks you're drafting in two scenarios:

  • When you select a List with a default task template set when quick-creating a task.
  • When you create a task in List view by clicking Add Task under any group.

Automations that use the Task created Trigger and the Apply a template Action will not trigger on tasks created in Lists that use a default task template.

What you'll need

  • Default task templates for Lists can be set on every ClickUp plan.
  • Guests cannot set default task templates for Lists.
  • If a default task template is private, only users with access to it will have it applied to newly-created tasks.
  • Tasks created from Forms override default task templates for Lists.
