Understand burndown charts

In burndown charts, the y-axis represents the number of tasks in your project or sprint. The x-axis represents the amount of time in your project or sprint.

  • The blue line shows the amount of work remaining in your project.
  • The yellow line represents the current rate of progress.
  • The red line represents the ideal rate of progress based on the remaining time. If your tasks stay at or under the red line, it means you're on track to finish your project on time.
Once all tasks are complete, the blue line will hit zero, showing the project's end. Adding tasks to your project or sprint will cause an upward trend on your chart. Mark tasks as Done or Closed to see it reflected on your Burndown widget the next day.

Adding more tasks to your project or sprint will cause an upward trend.
