Summarize task and location activity with ClickUp AI

Quickly summarize the activity in task descriptions and comments. Summarize the activity in multiple tasks in a Space, Folder, or List.

Summarize task activity

You can use ClickUp AI to summarize the activity taking place in the task description and comments. ClickUp AI also summarizes any subtasks and nested subtasks. You may receive more information by summarizing subtasks directly. 

To summarize a task:

  1. In an open task in the upper-right corner, click Ask.
  2. In Brain Assistant, select Summarize.

Summarize Space, Folder, and List activity

Summarize the task and task comment activity of multiple tasks in a location.

To generate a Space, Folder, or List summary:

  1. From a Space, Folder, or List's location header, click Ask.
  2. In Brain Assistant, select Executive Summary.
  3. By default, AI will include recent activity formatted as an executive summary with key efforts and initiatives.
    • You can scroll through the advanced options to ask AI to filter by things like task type and status. You can also select a different task report format.

  4. Click Generate

After AI summarizes your location, you have the following choices:

  • Copy: Copy the content and paste it manually into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
  • Create task: Create a task from the generated content.
  • Create Doc: Create a Doc from the generated content.
  • Retry: Generate slightly different content.
  • Like or dislike: Help us improve ClickUp AI by providing feedback.
  • Tell AI what to do next: Give AI more direction or ask AI something new. 

Summarize task comment threads

In a task, you can use the Summarize button to see the main points of a long thread or comment quickly.

To summarize a thread or comment:

  1. Hover in the upper-right corner of a comment or comment thread and click the AI icon.
  2. Select Summarize thread.
  3. AI generates a summary of the comment thread or a single comment.
  4. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Ask anything about this thread: Ask AI something about the comment thread.
    • Try again: Generate slightly different content.
    • Like or dislike: Help us improve ClickUp AI by providing feedback.
    • @mention: @mention specific tasks, Docs, people, or Channels.
    • Saved prompts: Open your and your team's saved prompts.
    • Insert: Insert AI's response into the reply thread, but do not send.
    • Post to Thread: Click to post a link to the new task to the comment thread. The thread will show your name.
      This is a quick way to acknowledge an action item from a teammate without interrupting your workflow.
    • Add as Brain Note: These responses are titled Brain Note. They are formatted to differentiate the content from inserted responses.
    • Create Doc: Create a Doc from the generated content.
    • Copy: Copy the content and paste it manually into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Save & continue in Ask AI: Click to save the task and open Brain Assistant. The task will be in the Brain Assistant modal in case you need to edit it.
    • Back: Return to the previous menu.
