Generate summaries and updates with ClickUp AI

Use ClickUp AI to summarize the activity in the task description and comments. Generate high-level updates. And quickly summarize lengthy task comment threads.

Summarize task activity

You can use ClickUp AI to summarize the activity taking place in the task description and comments. 

To summarize a task:

  1. In an open task above the title, click Ask AI and from the task modal, select Summarize.
    • Or from the banner below the title, select create a summary
  2. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • + Create: Create a task or Doc from the generated content.
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Click to generate a different response from the same prompt.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.
      For example, you could type: Translate to Spanish

Generate progress updates

Generate an update that summarizes the progress being made on the tasks in a List over a period of time. For example, changes in priority or due dates.

To generate a progress update:

  1. In an open task above the title, click Ask AI. You can also click the AI icon in the toolbar.
    • Or from the banner below the title, select ask about this task.
  2. In the ClickUp Brain modal, select Progress update.
  3. From the dropdown, select Today, Yesterday, This week, Last 24 hours, Last 3 days, Last 7 days, or Last 30 days.
  4. In the Configurations section, you can choose to filter tasks further.
  5. Click Generate
  6. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Edit: To choose a different List or configurations, scroll to the top of the modal. To the right of Progress Update, click Edit.
    • + Create: Create a task or Doc from the generated content.
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Click to generate the response again.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.
      For example, you could type: Make it more concise.

Generate List summaries

Summarize recent List activity using over 25 reporting tools.

To generate a List summary:

  1. In the toolbar, click the AI icon. Or, from a List's location header, click Ask AI in the upper-right corner. 
  2. In the ClickUp Brain modal, select List Summary
  3. From the Select List dropdown, select a List.
  4. In the Configurations section, you can choose to filter tasks further with the reporting tools.
  5. Click Generate
  6. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Edit: To choose a different List or configurations, scroll to the top of the modal. To the right of List Summary, click Edit.
    • + Create: Create a task or Doc from the generated content.
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Click to generate the response again.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.
      For example, you could type: Make it more concise.

Generate project updates

Create a high-level overview of project progress over time. 

  1. In an open task above the title, click Ask AI. You can also click the AI icon in the toolbar. Or, from a List's location header, click Ask AI in the upper-right corner. 
  2. From the Select List dropdown, select a List.
  3. From the Since dropdown, select Today, Yesterday, This week, Last 24 hours, Last 3 days, Last 7 days, or Last 30 days.
  4. In the Configurations section, you can choose to filter tasks further.
  5. Click Generate
  6. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Edit: To choose a different List or configurations, scroll to the top of the modal. To the right of Project Update, click Edit.
    • + Create: Create a task or Doc from the generated content.
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.

Summarize task comment threads

In a task, you can use the Summarize button to quickly see the main points of a long thread or comment.

To summarize a thread or comment:

  1. Hover in the upper-right corner of a comment or comment thread and click the AI icon. 
  2. AI generates a summary of the comment thread or single comment. 
  3. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
    • Copy: Copy the text to manually paste it into another location. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
    • Regenerate: Click to generate a different response from the same prompt.
    • Tell AI what to do next: Reprompt AI by typing a related prompt or giving AI more direction.
      For example, you could type: Fix spelling and grammar
