Bar Chart cards

The Bar Chart Dashboard card is a custom card available in our Dashboards feature that allows you to visualize changes to data over time.

What you'll need

  • Bar Chart cards are available on the Business Plan and above
  • The Dashboards ClickApp is enabled in every new Workspace by default. A Workspace owner or admin can disable the ClickApp.
  • Bar Chart card data can be exported
  • Guests can be invited to specific Dashboards with view-only permissions.

Bar Chart cards

The options chosen when creating the card determine the data reported and how it displays on your Bar Chart.

The data displayed on cards depends on the locations you select and the availability and use of features.

For example, the following table outlines how to use Custom Fields, Formula Fields, and Sprint Point with Bar Chart cards:

Feature

Use the feature with a Bar Chart card

Custom Fields

To use Custom Fields on the x-axis, the Custom Field must be added to each selected Space, Folder, or List.

For data to be displayed, at least one task in the selected locations must have a value set in the Custom Field.

Formula Fields

Formula Fields are available for the x-axis, y-axis, and the Group by dropdown.

Before using a Formula Field make sure you understand the following info:

  • Only supported fields will show in the Field dropdown.
  • A Formula Custom Field must be available in the location you're reporting on.
  • Bar Chart cards do not support dynamic date functions like TODAY().
  • You cannot create a Bar Chart with a supported Formula Field and later change the formula to a non-supported type. The card will no longer calculate correctly.
Sprint Points

To use sprint points on the y-axis, the Sprint Points ClickApp must be enabled at the Space level for each selected Space, Folder, or List.

For data to be displayed, at least one task in the selected locations must have sprint points set.

Following are the X Axis options:

Bar Charts are time-based when the x-axis is Time. Time-based cards work differently than non-time-based cards.

  • Time: Select Time to open the Time range picker, then select from the following options:
    • By days, by weeks, by months: Select to view y-axis data by day, week, or month for the time range selected in the This dropdown.
    • Time range: This setting includes two dropdowns that determine the period of time the chart reports on.
      • This dropdown: Select a time range for the x-axis from the following options:
        Screenshot of the This Dropdown.
        • This year, This month, or This week: Select a time range of this year, month, or week.
        • Choose rolling period: Select a relative time range between 1 and 365 days. The card will automatically continue to report on that same range of time.

  • Status type: Include only tasks set with one or more of the four status types.

  • Custom Fields: Select a Custom Field or a Formula Field.
    • The x-axis supports the following Formula Field types:

Y Axis

Following are the Y Axis options:

  • Tasks: Include tasks.
  • Time Estimate: Include Time Estimates
  • Average age of tasks: Include the average age of tasks
  • Sprint points: Include Sprint points
To use sprint points, the Sprint Points ClickApp must be enabled at the Space level for each selected Space, Folder, or List. For data to be displayed, at least one task in the selected locations must have sprint points set.
  • Custom Fields: Select a Custom Field or a Formula Field.
    • The y-axis supports the following Formula Field type:
      • Number

Group by: Group by options help organize your data points.

For example, when the y-axis is Tasks and the group by option is Status each status will be displayed as a separate bar. Each data point on the bar will reflect the number of tasks that were in that status on that date.

You can't select the Group by option that you chose for the y-axis.

Following are the Group by options:

These settings are optional:

    • Show tasks with no field set: Show tasks that do not have the chosen value field set.

For example, you choose Assignees as the value. When this setting is enabled tasks with and without assignees will display.

This setting is currently in beta. It will gradually be released to all Workspaces on the Business Plan and above.

    • Show average: Show a red-dotted line to indicate the numerical average of the y-axis data.
    • Include subtasks: Include subtasks.
    • Include archived: Include archived tasks.
    • Include closed: Include closed tasks in your data.
    • Include Tasks in Multiple Lists: Enabled by default. The Tasks in Multiple Lists ClickApp must be enabled and used in the chosen locations.
    • Show Subtasks in Multiple Lists: Enabled by default. The Subtasks in Multiple Lists ClickApp must be enabled and used in the chosen locations.
    • Show changes from day to day (instead of actual values): Display the difference day by day, rather than the value selected in the y-axis and other options listed above.
For example, your data includes 0 tasks in progress on Monday, 5 tasks in progress on Tuesday, and 3 tasks in progress on Wednesday. The Bar Chart card displays a value of 5 for Tuesday and -2 for Wednesday.
    • Show Y-Axis Values on Bars: Enabled by default. The y-axis values display above each bar and on hover. If disabled, the y-axis values only display on hover.
    • Keep this enabled if you're displaying the chart in a situation when you can't hover with a mouse, like projecting on a TV monitor.
    • Filter: Use filters to further refine the data included in your chart.
    • Click Add card to create or update the Line Chart.

        • Values: Sort the x-axis value from highest–lowest or lowest–highest.
        • Manual: Set a custom order.

To change the sort direction for the alphabetical and values options, click the double-arrow icon to the right of the option.
