Add and remove Doc followers

Followers (formerly watchers) are people who are notified about comments made on a Doc page.

What you'll need

When you're set as a follower on a Doc page or subpage, you're not a follower for the entire Doc. When you're set as a follower on a Doc page, you're not a follower for the parent Doc.

Add a follower to a Doc page

The person who creates the Doc page is automatically added as a follower.

Followers are also automatically added when:

  • Someone is added as an owner
    • If an owner is removed, they remain a follower until they're removed
    • The owner of the Doc page will not retroactively be added as a follower on pages created prior to the release of this feature.
  • Someone is @mentioned in a comment.
  • Someone is assigned a comment.

To add a follower to a Doc:

  1. Open the Doc and click the comments icon in the upper right.
  2. In the upper right of the comments section, click the bell icon.
    • Select Follow if you'd like to add yourself.
  3. Search or browse for people or Teams to add them as followers.

Current followers have highlighted avatars.
