Save Docs and pages as templates for frequently used layouts or processes in your Workspace.
What you'll need
- Doc templates are available on every ClickUp Plan.
- Everyone, including guests, can use Doc templates.
- Guests must have edit or full permissions to use Doc templates.
Doc templates
A Doc template is a duplicate of an entire Doc, including its settings and pages.
Page history is not included in Doc templates.
Page templates
You can create a page template that applies the content and settings of a single page within a Doc.
Create a Doc template
To create a Doc template:
- Create a Doc.
- Add the content and settings for your template.
- In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Click Save as template.
- Give your template a name, and configure your template settings.
- Click Save template.
- Your template is saved in the Template Center.

Create a Doc view using a template
You can create a Doc view that uses a template in a Space, Folder, or List.
Create a Doc view using a template in ClickUp 4.0
In ClickUp 4.0, from the Home Sidebar or the Spaces Sidebar:
- Hover over a Space, Folder, or List, and click the plus icon.
- Select Templates.
- Search or browse the template center.
- Select a template and click Use Template.

In ClickUp 3.0, from the Sidebar:
- Hover over a Space, Folder, or List, and click the plus icon.
- Select Templates.
- Search or browse the template center.
- Select a template and click Use Template.
Create a page template
To create a page template:
- Create a Doc or a new page, and add the content and settings for your template.
- On the right, click the Templates icon.
- Click Save as Template.
- Give your template a name, and configure your template settings.
- Click Save template.
- Your template is saved in the Template Center.
You can also create page templates from the page settings menu.
Apply a Doc template
To apply a Doc template:
- Create a new Doc or open an existing Doc.
- In the upper-right corner, click the ellipsis ... icon.
- Select the Entire Doc tab.
- Click Apply template.
- Search or browse the Template Center.
- Select a template.
- Click Use Template.
Apply a page template
If the selected page is blank, page templates will overwrite the blank page. If the page already has content, the page template will be applied to a new, separate subpage.
To apply a page template:
- Create a new Doc or open an existing Doc.
- Create a new page.
- On the right, click the Templates icon.
- Search or browse for a page template.
- Hover over the template and click Add.
Or click the template name to review the template details. Then click Use Template.
You can also apply page templates while typing, using the /temp /Slash Command.
Update a page template
To update a page template:
- Create a Doc or a new page and apply the template.
- Make the required content and settings changes.
- On the right, click the Templates icon.
- Click Update existing Template.
- Search or browse for the template.
- Select a template, then click Next.
- Edit your template settings.
- Click Save.
- The updated page template is now available in Template Center.
Delete a Doc template
Once you delete a template, it's gone forever.
To delete a Doc template:
- In the upper-left corner, click your Workspace avatar.
- Select Templates. In ClickUp 3.0, you'll click Template Center.
- Search for the template.
- From the template preview, select Delete Template.
