How long does an import take?
Starting the import process generally takes 2 to 10 minutes. After you've confirmed the import, the actual importing time can vary between 1 minute to a few hours. This is entirely based on how much data you have in Monday.com as well as Monday.com's rate limits.
Since Monday.com does rate limit the import, we have to throttle the speed to ensure we don't hit the rate limit.
We'll send you an email as soon as your import is done!
Create your structure in ClickUp first. Create a Space or Spaces to house all of your Monday.com boards.
Then, import your Monday.com boards into the ClickUp Spaces you already created.
How to start an Import from Monday.com
- In the upper-left corner click your Workspace avatar and select Settings.
- Select Import/Export.
- Click the Start Import and then the Monday.com button
- Following the on-screen instructions, authorize ClickUp to import your items on Monday.com by copying the Personal API Token and inputting it into ClickUp.
After authorizing ClickUp to import your Monday.com data, you'll be presented with three steps.
1. Import Items
You have 2 options for importing Monday.com items into ClickUp. Basically, you're just importing Monday.com boards into new ClickUp Folders and Lists. Your choices are to import into a new Space, or into an existing Space. Read more about the ClickUp hierarchy to understand Spaces and Folders in ClickUp.
-
New Space: Import the board into a brand new space, named after the Monday.com board.
-
Existing Space: Import your boards into an existing ClickUp Space. This option is recommended for all related boards from Monday.com.
On the left side, you'll see all boards from Monday.com.
On the right side is how you're mapping them into ClickUp.
We're able to automatically import:
-
pulses (tasks)
-
assignees
-
date created
-
comments
-
name
-
status
-
due date
-
custom fields
-
text
-
numbers
-
checkbox
-
links (website links)
-
item IDs
-
phone
-
location (as text)
-

-
progress
-
dropdowns
-
time tracking
-
color picker (as text)
-
email
Monday.com limitations prevent us from importing info-boxes, tags, dependencies, or linked tasks, among other data. Sub-items are imported into ClickUp as tasks.
You can also import only selected Boards from Monday.com:
- In the upper-left corner click your Workspace avatar and select Settings.
- Select Import/Export.
- Choose Start Import.
- Select Monday and Import from Monday.
- Enter the API token.
- Uncheck the All column box or click Customize Boards.
- Re-check the Boards you want to import.
2. Import Board Statuses
If you use boards in Monday.com, chances are you use them one of two ways:
Groups as Statuses: For example, your groups are things like:
-
To do
-
In progress
-
Review
-
Done
In this case, your boards will be imported as new Lists with groups as statuses.
Status Column as Statuses: Since ClickUp only allows one status per item, you'll need to pick a status column per board. Our importer auto-selects the first status column it finds per item, however, you can manually map a status column per board into ClickUp.
In this case, your boards will be imported as Folders, and groups will be imported as Lists.
3. Import Users
Map Monday.com users to ClickUp users to preserve assignees, history, and item activity. If you don't map users, the data will still be imported, but will not be synced to a ClickUp user and assignees that aren't mapped to ClickUp will not be preserved.
If you haven't already added users into ClickUp, simply select 'invite by email' to invite and map automatically.
If you're done with your import and are ready to move stuff around, take advantage of our Bulk Action Toolbar!
