Import from Todoist

How long does an import take?

After you've confirmed the import, the actual importing time can vary between 1 minute to a few hours. This is entirely based on how much data you have in Todoist as well as Todoist's rate limits.

We'll send you an email as soon as your import is done.

Before you get started:

Create a Space or Spaces to house your Todoist projects (and subprojects if you have them!)

Then, import your Todoist projects into the Spaces you've created.

If you're unfamiliar with the way ClickUp's hierarchy works, please see our documentation here

How to start an Import from Todoist

  1. Click your Workspace avatar in the upper-right.

  2. Click Settings

  3. Click Imports/Exports in the left sidebar.
  4. Click the Todoist tab and select Import tasks from Todoist.

  5. Authorize ClickUp to import your tasks on Todoist's website.

Authorize ClickUp

When authorizing, a popup appears requesting access for ClickUp to view your user info and read your app data, including projects, tasks, notes, labels, and filters. This permissions request needs to be accepted for the Todoist integration to function.

After authorizing ClickUp to import your Todoist data, you'll be presented with three steps.

Step 1: Import Tasks

On the left side, you'll see all the projects from Todoist.

On the right side, you'll see how to map Todoist projects as ClickUp Folders. You will select the ClickUp Space into which you will place each Project/Folder.

You can import:

  • name

  • tags

  • priority

  • assignees

  • due date

  • date created

  • comments

  • subtasks

Important: Due to Todoist limitations, we are unable to import attachments from Todoist.

Importing Projects

  1. Choose which Todoist Projects you would like to import

  2. Select the ClickUp Space those Todoist Projects will be nested in

Step 2: Import People

Map Todoist users to ClickUp people in order to preserve assignees, history, and task activity. If you don't map people, the data will still be imported, but will not be synced to a ClickUp person and assignees that aren't mapped to ClickUp will not be preserved.

Tip: If you haven't already added people into ClickUp, simply select 'invite by email' to invite and map automatically.

Step 3: Options

Import closed tasks from Todoist

This option allows you to import all tasks or just open tasks into ClickUp. Generally, we recommend importing all of your tasks.

If you're done with your import and are ready to move stuff around, make sure to take advantage of our  Bulk Action Toolbar!

Handling multiple Todoist imports

To import more than one Todoist account into ClickUp, you will need to head over to your Todoist account settings. This is for the account you have already imported.

From there, click on "Integrations" and click the little "X" that removes ClickUp from this Todoist account. Keep in mind that removing the integration will not remove any tasks that have already been imported!

After that, you'll be able to set your other Todoist account the same way you setup the first.
