Create and edit tasks from Slack

Create or edit tasks without leaving a Slack conversation. These are two of the Slack actions offered through our integration with Slack.

What you'll need

  • Tasks can be created or edited using Slack on any ClickUp plan.
  • Guests cannot use the integration with Slack.
  • You must individually enable and authorize your connection with Slack before you can create or edit tasks from Slack.

Create a task in Slack

You can create a task in Slack using a /Slash Command or create a task from someone's message using the ellipsis ... menu.

Using a /Slash Command

To create a ClickUp task in Slack:

  1. Open a channel, type /clickup new and send your message.
  2. Select Create Task.
  3. Enter the task's name, description, and the List you want to create a task in.

  4. After selecting the List, you'll have the option to include the following:
    • Assignees
    • Status
    • Priority
    • Tags
    • Due date
  5. In the lower-right corner of the modal, click Create.

Using a message's ellipsis ... menu

To create a ClickUp task from a message in Slack:

  1. Hover over a Slack message and click the ellipsis ... menu.
    • If it is your first time creating a ClickUp task from Slack, select More message shortcuts.
  2. Select Create Task.
  3. Enter the task's name, description, and the List you want to create a task in.
  4. After selecting the List, you'll have the option to include the following:
    • Assignees
    • Status
    • Priority
    • Tags
    • Due date
  5. In the lower-right corner of the modal, click Create.

Edit a task in Slack

You can edit a task from its preview in Slack:

  1. Under the task preview, click Edit.
  2. Update the task details.
  3. Click Save.

The following task details can be edited from a task preview in Slack:

  • Name
  • Description
  • Location
  • Assignees
  • Status
  • Priority
  • Tags
  • Due date
