Your first sprint
Your first sprint will be created automatically when you add a new Sprint Folder.
You can add Sprints to your Sprint Folder at any time.
Run a sprint
There are three steps to running a sprint:
- Plan your sprint.
- Lock your sprint forecast.
- Perform your sprint rituals.
Plan a sprint
To plan your sprint, you'll need to do three things:
- Add tasks to your sprint.
- Assign tasks.
- Estimate effort on tasks.
Add tasks to a sprint
You can add tasks to a sprint in three ways:
- Set your backlog List, and select tasks from it.
- Create new tasks.
- Add tasks from other lists using Tasks in Multiple Lists or Subtasks in Multiple Lists.
Set your backlog List
To set your backlog list, from a sprint:
- Click the Backlog card.
- Search or browse for your backlog List.
Add tasks from your backlog to the current sprint
Once you've set your backlog List, you can add tasks to the current sprint.
- Click the Backlog card.
- For each task, click Add to sprint from the Sprints column.
- Or select one or more tasks and use the Bulk Action toolbar to add them to the current sprint.
- The task(s) will be added to the current sprint.
Assign tasks to your team
Set the assignee for the tasks added to your sprint.
Click the Assignee card to filter for unassigned tasks.
Estimate effort
Add estimated effort for each task, using Sprint Points or Time Estimates.
Click the Effort card to apply a filter for tasks without Sprint Points or Time Estimates set.
Lock the sprint forecast
Once the tasks for your first sprint are set, remember to lock the sprint forecast.
Locking the forecast sets the estimated work per sprint so it can be used by the sprint reporting cards.
Start a sprint
Your first sprint will start automatically on the start date and time.
Perform sprint rituals
You can use several ClickUp features to run your sprint rituals in ClickUp.
Options include:
- Use a dedicated Chat channel for your team to share async updates.
- Use SyncUps for your daily stand ups.
- Use Docs to record meeting notes.
- Use a recurring task to keep track of meeting agendas and action items.
- Use views such as a Dashboard view to track progress and run retrospectives.
- Add AI Cards to your Dashboard to generate personal or team StandUps.
