What you'll need

  • Sprints are available on every ClickUp Plan.
  • Sprint Automations and Sprint Dashboard cards are available on the Business Plan and above.
  • 100 uses of Sprint Points are available on our Free Forever and Unlimited Plans.
  • Unlimited Sprint Points are available on our Business Plan and above.
  • A Workspace owner or admin will need to enable the Sprints ClickApp.
  • Guests can work on tasks in sprints, just like regular tasks.
  • Guests cannot create sprints.

Add Sprints to a Sprint Folder

Sprints are Lists that you add to Sprint Folders.

There are three ways to add Sprints to a Sprint Folder:

  • On the Business Plan and up, you can enable two Automations that add Sprints and tasks to your Sprint Folder.
  • On Free Forever and Unlimited Plans, you can manually add Sprints.
  • If neither of the following settings is right for your Workspace, take a look at Custom Sprint Duration. This feature allows you to adjust individual Sprints without changing the default time-period settings for your Sprint Folder or Workspace. It also allows for more flexibility.

For example, without Custom Sprint Duration enabled, Sprints can only be set in increments of 1 week. With Custom Sprint Duration enabled, Sprints can be set for any number of days.

Add Sprints using Automations on Business Plans and up

To add Sprints using Automations:

  1. From the Folder where you want to apply the Automation, click the ellipsis ... menu.
  2. Select Folder settings, then Sprint Folder Settings
  3. In the Default Settings for Sprints modal, select the Automations tab.
  4. Click the toggle to enable the following Automations:
    • When Sprint is done then Create new Sprint: When a Sprint is marked Done, one new Sprint is added to the Sprint Folder where the Automation was enabled. After enabling this Automation, you can specify the number of times a Sprint will be added by typing a number into the field.

For example, in your Workspace's Sprint settings Sprints are set for a 1-week duration. In this Automation's number field, you set the number of Sprints to 20. After this week's Sprint is marked Done, the next Sprint is automatically added to this Sprint Folder. One Sprint is added each week for the next 19 weeks.
Make sure you have all the info! Take a look at our article Sprint reporting and planning for info on how to mark a Sprint as Done

    • When Sprint is done then Move tasks to next Sprint: After the current Sprint is marked as Done and before the next Sprint starts, unfinished tasks will be moved to the next Sprint. Tasks will no longer be included in the previous Sprint.
