Organize your Hierarchy for goals and OKRs

Use the flexibility of the ClickUp Hierarchy to organize and execute your goals and OKRs.

Use the Company OKRs and goals template to create a Space with our recommended Hierarchy structure, or apply the best practices in this article to your Workspace.

Spaces

Create one Space for all of your goals and OKRs, providing one unified place for accountability and transparency. Never have to guess who is responsible and when deadlines need to be met.

Folders and Lists

We recommend creating Folders for company-wide, departmental, quarterly, or region-based goals and OKRs. Based on your business, a combination may be the ideal solution.

The Lists you create will depend on your Folder organization. For example, a region-based goals and OKRs Folder could contain a List for each region.

Tasks

We recommend creating one task for each goal or OKR. This makes tracking simple and centralizes all discussions about the project, minimizing delays and missing context.

Use task Relationships to link different OKRs in your Workspace. For example, you can link your team's OKR tasks to larger company or department-level OKRs. This allows you to instantly rollup updates to company-wide OKRs, regardless of Hierarchy location.

For OKRs specifically, we recommend using tasks for the objective and subtasks for the key results.

Identify whether a task is an objective or key result by creating custom task types for each.

Assign an individual or Team to the task, set a due date, create the necessary subtasks, and add helpful context using Custom Fields!
