Relationships on tasks

You can connect tasks to other items in your ClickUp Workspace using Relationships.

View relationships in task view 4.0

There are two ways to view relationships in task view 4.0:

Relationships section

In task view 4.0, relationships are displayed in a dedicated task section below the task description.

In the relationships section, tabs are displayed once a relationship is added.

For example, if a task has no dependencies, the Dependencies tab is not displayed.

Relationship tabs

The following table describes the relationships displayed on each tab:

Tab Relationship Description
Related
  • Linked tasks
  • Linked Docs
Contains linked tasks and linked Docs.

Items using Custom Task Types will appear in their own dedicated section.
Dependencies Blocking Tasks that are blocked by the current task.
Blocked by Tasks that are blocking the current task from being completed.
Custom Relationships Custom relationships Each custom relationship has its own dedicated tab.

Items using Custom Task Types will appear in their own dedicated section.

Add columns to the relationships section

You can add columns to the relationships section to show details from related tasks.

View relationships in full screen mode

To view relationships in full screen mode, from the relationships section:

  • In the upper-right, click the full screen button.

Relationships page in the right sidebar

In task view 4.0, you can view and add relationships, including references, from the right sidebar.

  1. In the right sidebar, click the Relationships icon.
  2. From the Relationships tab:
    • In the upper-right corner, click the plus icon to add related items.
    • View the related tasks, Docs, and items from Custom Relationships.

  3. From the References tab:
    • View tasks and Docs that have mentioned this task.

Create relationships in task view 4.0

There are several ways to create relationships from tasks.

View Relationships in task view 3.0

In task view 3.0, relationships are displayed in the right sidebar.

The tabs displayed vary based on:

  • The ClickApps enabled for your Workspace and the Space where the task exists.
  • If the task has been related to other items.
    • For example, if the task is not related to any Docs, the Doc Links tab will not be displayed.

The following table describes the relationships displayed on each tab:

Tab Relationship Description
Dependencies Blocking Tasks that are blocking the current task from being completed
Waiting Tasks that are waiting for the current task to be completed.
Task Links Linked Tasks directly linked to the current task.
References Tasks where the current task has been mentioned.
Docs Links Docs Docs directly linked to the current task.
References Docs where the current task has been mentioned.

View relationships in full screen mode

Blocking, Waiting, Task Links, Docs Links, and Related tabs can all be viewed in a full screen mode by clicking the full screen icon.

Create Relationships in task view 3.0

In task view 3.0, there are several ways to create relationships from tasks.
