Add tasks and Docs to a Whiteboard

Add tasks and Docs to your Whiteboard and edit them without leaving the canvas. Tasks and Docs have the same functionality as the other Whiteboard items, you can duplicate, connect, and draw on them!

Directly connect your ideas to your work by converting shapes, sticky notes, or text into a task. 

What you'll need

  • Whiteboards are available on every ClickUp Plan.

  • The number of Whiteboards that can be created depends on your plan:

    • Free Forever: 3 Whiteboards.

    • Unlimited: 10 Whiteboards.

    • Business, Business Plus, and Enterprise: Unlimited Whiteboards.

  • Guests can use Whiteboards.

  • If using Google Chrome, you must enable hardware acceleration.

Add a task

You can add any task or subtask to your Whiteboard.

To add an existing task:

  1. From the Whiteboard toolbar, select the ClickUp icon.
    • You can also use the shortcut Shift + T.
  2. Select the Tasks tab.
  3. In the Tasks modal, search for a task by name, ID, URL, or browse recently viewed tasks.
  4. Click to add the task or subtask to your Whiteboard.

Update or open a task

You can update the task's or subtask's name, status, priority, or assignee. Or you can open the task or subtask to fully update it.

To update or open a task from the Whiteboard:

  1. In select mode, click into the task. To use select mode, in the Whiteboard toolbar click the arrow icon. Or press the hotkey V.
    • You can change the name, status, priority, or assignee.
    • You can use the item menu to open the task. 
    • You can click the ellipsis ... on the item menu to arrange the task in relation to the other items on your Whiteboard.

Create a new task

You can create a new task or subtask from your Whiteboard. After saving it in a List, you can add it to your Whiteboard.

To create a new task:

  1. From the Whiteboard toolbar, select the ClickUp icon. 
    • You can also use the shortcut Shift + T.
  2. Select the Tasks tab.
  3. In the lower-left of the Tasks modal, click + New Task.
  4. Select a List.
  5. Name the task.
    • You can add an assignee.
    • You can also update and manage Custom Fields if there are any in the location.
  6. Click Create.
    • You can add the task to your Whiteboard after creating it.

Convert an item to a task

To convert an item to a task:

  1. In select mode, click into the task. To use select mode, in the Whiteboard toolbar click the arrow icon. Or press the hotkey V.
  2. From the Item menu, select + Task.

  3. Select a List.
    • You can update and manage Custom Fields if there are any in the location.
  4. Click Convert to task.
  5. The task opens on your Whiteboard.
    • You can update or open the new task. 
    • You can click the ellipsis ... on the item menu to arrange the Doc in relation to the other items on your Whiteboard.

Add a Doc

You can add a Doc to your Whiteboard and fully edit it while you brainstorm. 

To add a Doc:

  1. From the Whiteboard toolbar, select ClickUp Cards.
    • You can also use the shortcut Shift + T.
  2. Select the Docs tab.
  3. In the Docs modal, search for a Doc by name, ID, URL, or browse recently viewed Docs.
  4. Click to add the Doc to your Whiteboard.

    • You can edit the Doc from your Whiteboard.
    • You can click the ellipsis ... on the item menu to arrange the Doc in relation to the other items on your Whiteboard.
