Save Docs and pages as templates for frequently used layouts or processes in your Workspace.
What you'll need

Doc templates are available on every ClickUp Plan!

This Docs Home ClickApp must be enabled by Workspace owners or admins.

Everyone, including guests, can use Doc templates.

Note: Guests must have edit or full permissions to use Doc templates.

Create a Doc template
A Doc template is a duplicate of an entire Doc and all of it's pages.
To create a Doc template:

From the Sidebar, click the Templates icon.

You can also access Doc templates from the Template Center.

Select Save as Template.

From the Save as new Template modal, type a template name to create a new template.

If there's already an existing Doc you want to use to update an existing template:

Click Update an existing Template in the lower-left corner.

Browse templates or select a recently used one.

Enter a new name for the template.

You can add a description, tags, or select sharing options.

Click Save.
Apply a Doc template
Once a template has been created, you can apply it to any new or existing Doc.

From the Sidebar, click the Templates icon.

Search, filter, or browse for an existing Doc template.

Click on a template to append it to your existing Doc.
When you apply a Doc template, it's added as a new page.
Using /Slash Commands
Save clicks by using the /Slash Command /temp to apply a Doc template.
To apply a Doc template using Slash Command:

From an open Doc, type /temp and press Return or Enter.

From the modal, select a recently used template or click Browse to search the Template Center.

To append the template to your Doc, select a recent template or choose one from the Template Center. You can click Quick Use or select the template:

Quick Use: Create a new Doc from the template with one click.

Select the template: See template details or customize the template. Then click Use Template.

Update a Doc template
To update a Doc template from the Doc settings menu:

Create a new Doc and apply an existing template.

Make any changes or updates as needed.

From the Sidebar, click the Templates icon.

Click Update existing template.

Select the template.
-
Click Next.

Optional: You can rename, add a description, tags, or update the sharing preferences.

Click Save.
Delete a Doc template
Delete templates you don't use anymore.
Note: Once you delete a template, it's gone forever.
To delete a Doc template:

Click your avatar in the bottom left corner and choose Template Center from the menu.

Search for the template.

From the template preview, select Delete Template.
Create page templates
Create page templates to apply a consistent format to pages within your Docs:

From the Page settings menu, click the ellipsis ... next to a page.

Select Save as Template.

From the Save as new Template modal, type a template name to create a new template.

If there's already an existing page you want to use to update an existing template:

Click Update an existing Template in the lower-left corner.

Browse templates or select a recently used one.

Enter a new name for the template.

You can add a description, tags, or select sharing options.

Click Save.
Apply a page template
You can apply page templates to individual pages within Docs.
If the selected page is blank, page templates will overwrite the blank page. If the page already has content, the page template will be applied to a new, separate subpage.
To apply a page template from the left sidebar:
- From a Doc, expand the left sidebar.
- Create a new page, or click the ellipsis ... next to an existing page.
- Select Apply template.
- Search, filter, or browse for an existing Doc template.
- Click on a page template to apply it to the selected page.
To apply a page template using /Slash Commands:
- Create or open a page.
- Type /temp and press Return or Enter.

From the modal, select a recently used template or click Browse to search the Template Center.
