Doc tags

Organize your ClickUp Docs using Doc tags. Manage related Docs that have been shared with a location in your Workspace's Hierarchy or aren't using Relationships.

What you'll need

  • A Workspace owner or admin must enable the Tags ClickApp to use Doc tags.
  • 100 uses of Doc tags are available on the Free Forever, Unlimited, and Business Plans.
    • Uses include creating, deleting, adding, and removing Doc tags.
  • Unlimited Doc tags are available on our Business Plus and Enterprise Plan.
  • Guests can use Workspace Doc tags, but not Private Doc tags.
  • Guests can add or remove Workspace Doc tags from a Doc, but they can't create, edit, or delete Workspace Doc tags.

Docs and wikis

A wiki is a Doc that's prioritized as the source of truth. Unless specified, anything that applies to Docs also applies to wikis.

Doc tag types

There are two types of Doc tags:
  • Workspace Doc tags: Members can add Workspace Doc tags to any Doc in your Workspace. Workspace Doc tags cannot be converted to Private Doc tags.
  • Private Doc tags: Private Doc tags are only visible to you and can only be added to Docs by you. Private Doc tags cannot be converted to Workspace Doc tags.

Add, edit, and remove Doc tags

You can add or remove Doc tags from Docs Home, individual Docs, or Docs Hub.

Add and remove tags from Docs Home

To add a tag from Docs Home:
  1. Open your Docs Home.
  2. Click the tags icon next to the Doc you want to add a Doc tag to.
  3. Create a new Doc tag or add an existing one to your Doc.
To remove a tag from Docs Home:
  1. Open your Docs Home.
  2. Next to any Doc, click the name of the Doc tag you want to remove.
  3. In the Tags modal menu, hover over the Doc tag you want to remove and click the x icon.

Add and remove tags from individual Docs

To add a tag from an individual Doc:
  1. Click the tags icon in the upper-right corner of a Doc
  2. Select a Doc tag.
To remove a tag from an individual Doc:
  1. Hover over the tag name in the upper-right corner of the Doc.
  2. Click the x icon.

Edit Doc tags

To edit an existing Doc tag:
  1. Click the tag you want to edit.
  2. In the Tags modal, hover over the tag you want to edit.
  3. Click the ellipsis ... icon.

  4. Choose from the following options:
    • Delete: Delete the Doc tag. Deleting a Doc tag is permanent and irreversible.
    • Rename: Update the name of the Doc tag.
    • Change color: Change the color of the Doc tag.

Search for Docs using Doc tags

In Docs Home, you can search for Docs using their tags in two ways.
  • In the upper-right, click the names of the Doc tags you want to filter your Docs by.

  • In the upper-right, click the dropdown menu next to Show to set Doc tag filter preferences:
    • Sort by: Choose to only show Workspace Doc tags or Private Doc tags.
    • Order tags by: Organize Doc tags by popularity or alphabetical order.
    • Docs contain: Choose to only show Docs that have any or all Doc tags.

Combine both Doc tag filtering options to achieve the most granular results.
