Summarize task activity

You can use ClickUp AI to summarize the activity taking place in the task description and comments. 

To summarize a task:

1. In an open task above the title, click Ask AI and from the AI modal, select Summarize.
   • Or from the banner below the title, select create a summary. 
2. After the AI responds, you have the following choices:
   
   • +Create: Create a task or Doc from the response. 
   • Copy: Copy the text to paste it into another location manually. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
   • Retry: Click to get a different response from the same prompt.
   • Follow ups: Choose a suggested follow-up question. 
   • Tell AI what to do next: Give AI more direction or ask AI something new.

Create Space, Folder, and List summaries

Summarize recent location activity.

To generate a Space, Folder, or List summary:

1. From a Space, Folder, or List's location header in the upper-right corner, click Ask AI.
2. In the ClickUp Brain modal's Features section click Space, Folder, or List summary.
3. By default, AI will include recent activity formatted as an executive summary with key efforts and initiatives.
   • You can scroll through the advanced options to ask AI to filter by things like task type and status. You can also select a different task report format.
     
4. Click Generate. 
5. After AI responds, you have the following choices:
   • +Create: Create a task or Doc from the response. 
   • Copy: Copy the text to paste it into another location manually. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
   • Retry: Click to get a different response from the same prompt.
   • Tell AI what to do next: Give AI more direction or ask AI something new. 

Summarize task comment threads

In a task, you can use the Summarize button to quickly see the main points of a long thread or comment.

To summarize a thread or comment:

1. Hover in the upper-right corner of a comment or comment thread and click the AI icon. 
2. AI generates a summary of the comment thread or single comment. 
3. After the content is generated, you have the following choices:
   • Copy: Copy the text to paste it into another location manually. You can also manually copy any part of the generated text.
   • Retry: Click to get a different response from the same prompt.
   • Tell AI what to do next: Give AI more direction or ask AI something new.
