Add a Chat view

Chat view lets you talk about items outside of tasks in a specific location in ClickUp. View attachments, notifications, unfurled task links, and embeds in one place. 

What you'll need

  • Chat view is available on all plans. 
  • Everyone, including guests, can add Chat views.
  • There is no chat history limit on any plan.

Guests must have Can edit or Full permissions to add views.

Add a Chat view in ClickUp 3.0

There are two ways to add a Chat view to your Workspace in ClickUp 3.0:

From the toolbar:

  1. Click New and select the Chat tab.
  2. By default, Chat views are added to the Everything level. You can pick a different location using the location drop-down menu.
  3. Give your Chat view a name, and add the first message to share.
  4. Chat views are available to everyone in your Workspace. You can make your new Chat view private to you by clicking the Private toggle.

From the Views Bar:

  1. Browse to the Everything level, or a Space, Folder, or List.
  2. Open the Views modal.

    • In ClickUp 2.0 from your Views Bar, you'll click + View.
    • In ClickUp 3.0 from your Views Bar, you'll click + Add.
  3. Select Chat.
  4. Name your view.
  5. Check the Private view box if you don't want anyone else to access this view or the Pin view box if you want the view to always display in your Views Bar.
  6. Click Add View.

Add a Chat view in ClickUp 2.0

To add a Chat view in ClickUp 2.0:

  1. Browse to the Everything level, or a Space, Folder, or List.
  2. Open the Views modal.

    • In ClickUp 2.0 from your Views Bar, you'll click + View.
    • In ClickUp 3.0 from your Views Bar, you'll click + Add.
  3. Select Chat.
  4. Name your view.
  5. Check the Private view box if you don't want anyone else to access this view or the Pin view box if you want the view to always display in your Views Bar.
  6. Click Add View.

  3. Watchers of this chat (who will get notifications for any updates).
