Troubleshoot notifications

If you aren't receiving the notifications that you should be, you can use this guide to find a solution.

Why am I not receiving notifications?

There are several reasons you may not be receiving notifications:

  • You're not using the latest version of our desktop app.
  • Your notification settings in ClickUp are disabled.
  • If you're using the desktop app, your operating system has notifications disabled for ClickUp.
  • If you're using a browser, your operating system has notifications disabled for your browser.
  • Your browser doesn't have permission to show notifications from app.clickup.com
  • Your browser doesn't support push notifications.

Troubleshoot Chrome notifications

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot Chrome notifications.

Step 1: Ensure browser notifications are enabled in ClickUp

To ensure browser notifications are enabled in Chrome:

  1. Click your Workspace avatar in the upper-right corner of ClickUp and choose Notification settings.
  2. Enable browser notifications.
  3. If your browser does not yet have permission to show notifications, click Allow when the banner appears to turn on browser notifications.

If you are still unable to receive browser notifications, proceed through the following steps until you receive them.

Step 2: Reset browser notification permissions

To reset browser notification permissions on Chrome:

  1. Click the site information icon located on the left of the browser address bar.

  2. Click Reset permissions.
  3. If you don't see Reset permissions, click Site settings and then click Reset permissions.
  4. After resetting your permissions, you'll see a banner in ClickUp asking if you want to enable browser notifications. Click Enable.

Step 3: Check your operating system's notification settings

If step 1 and 2 don't fix your notifications, you can check your operating system's settings.

On Mac:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on System Settings and then click Notifications.
  3. Choose your browser from the list.
  4. Turn Allow notifications on. If it was already on, try to turn it on and off.

On Windows:

  1. Go to Settings, System, and then Notifications & actions.
  2. Turn on the top-level toggle for Notifications.
  3. Choose your browser under Get notifications from these senders.
  4. Enable notifications for your browser. If it was already enabled, try to turn it on and off.

Step 4: Force restart your browser

If all other steps have failed to produce browser notifications, force quit your browser.

On Mac:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Click Force Quit from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select your browser.
  4. Click Force Quit.

On Windows:

  1. Click on the browser application or window.
  2. Press and hold Alt + F4.
    • Alternatively, open Task Manager, right-click on your browser application, and select End Task.

Troubleshoot Firefox notifications

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot Firefox notifications.

Step 1: Ensure browser notifications are enabled in ClickUp

To ensure browser notifications are enabled in Firefox:

  1. Click your Workspace avatar in the upper-right corner of ClickUp and choose Notification settings.
  2. Enable browser notifications.
  3. If your browser does not yet have permission to show notifications, click Allow when the banner appears to turn on browser notifications.

If you are still unable to receive browser notifications, proceed through the following steps until you receive them.

Step 2: Reset browser notification permissions

To reset browser notification permissions for ClickUp on Firefox:

  1. Click your Workspace avatar in the upper-right corner of ClickUp and choose Notification settings.
  2. Click the site information icon located on the left of the browser address bar.
  3. Click the x icon next to Allowed.

  4. Refresh the page.
  5. Enable browser notifications.
  6. After enabled browser notifications, you'll see a banner in ClickUp asking if you want to enable browser notifications. Click Allow.

Step 3: Check your operating system's notification settings

If step 1 and 2 don't fix your notifications, you can check your operating system's settings.

On Mac:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on System Settings and then click Notifications.
  3. Choose your browser from the list.
  4. Turn Allow notifications on. If it was already on, try to turn it on and off.

Step 4: Force restart your browser

Troubleshoot Safari notifications

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot Safari notifications.

Step 1: Ensure browser notifications are enabled in ClickUp

To ensure browser notifications are enabled in Safari:

  1. Click your Workspace avatar in the upper-right corner of ClickUp and choose Notification settings.
  2. Enable browser notifications.
  3. If your browser does not yet have permission to show notifications, click Allow when the banner appears to turn on browser notifications.

If you are still unable to receive browser notifications, proceed through the following steps until you receive them.

Step 2: Check browser notification permissions

To check browser notification permissions on Firefox:

  1. Open Safari's Settings menu.
  2. Select the Websites tab.
  3. Click Notifications.
  4. Ensure app.clickup.com shows Allow.

Step 3: Check your operating system's notification settings

If step 1 and 2 don't fix your notifications, you can check your operating system's settings.

On Mac:

Troubleshoot desktop notifications

The following steps will help you troubleshoot desktop notifications.

On MacOS, you will receive a desktop notification asking you if you'd like to grant permission for the ClickUp desktop app to send notifications. If you did not allow permission, first reinstall the desktop app before proceeding.

Step 1: Ensure desktop notifications are enabled in ClickUp

From the desktop app:

  1. Click your personal avatar in the upper-right and choose Notification settings.
  2. If notifications are disabled, you'll see the option to Enable notifications to the right of Desktop.
  3. Click Enable notifications. If notifications are already enabled, turn them off and back on again.

  4. Use the dropdown menu to further customize your desktop notifications.
  5. If you are still not receiving desktop notifications, please try the following steps.

Step 2: Check your operating system's notification settings

On Mac:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Click on System Settings then go to Notifications.
  3. Find the ClickUp desktop app in the list of applications and click it.
  4. Turn Allow notifications on. If it was already on, try to turn it off and on.

On Windows:

  1. Go to Settings, System, and then Notifications & actions.
  2. Turn on the top-level toggle for Notifications.
  3. Click on the ClickUp desktop app under Get notifications from these senders.
  4. Turn on notifications for the ClickUp desktop app. If it was already on, try to turn it off and on.

Step 3: Force restart the desktop app

If all other steps have failed to produce browser notifications, force quit your browser

On Mac:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of your screen.
  2. Click Force Quit from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select your browser application.
  4. Click Force Quit.

On Windows:

  1. Click on the browser application or window then press and hold Alt + F4.
  2. Alternatively, open Task Manager, right-click on your browser application, and select End Task.

Troubleshoot push notifications on Brave

If you're using Brave as your browser and not receiving push notifications, you can enable the Use Google services for push messaging option in your privacy and security settings.
