Task Relationships

Task Relationships allow you to quickly link tasks across your entire Workspace. You can link related tasks for quick reference or use them to highlight important items for you and your team.
If a task must be finished before another one can begin, we recommend using Dependency Relationship.

What you'll need

Task view 3.0 is currently in beta. Join the 3.0 waitlist.

Create a task Relationship

Once the Relationships ClickApp is enabled, you're ready to create your first task Relationship.
Task view 3.0 has introduced several new features and UI updates! Click the following tabs to see the instructions for each version.
  1. There are two ways to create task relationships in Task view 2.0.

    From the Relationship section:

    1. Open a task.
    2. Scroll down to the Relationship section.
    3. Click the +Add Relationship button.
    4. Search or browse for any task.
    5. A new Relationships table will be created for the linked tasks.

    Using /Slash Commands:

    1. Open a task.
    2. In the task description or a comment, type /blocking,/waiting, or /link to.
    3. Press Enter on PC or Return on Mac.
    4. Search or browse for the task.

    If you already have tasks linked, then you can go straight to the Tasks Relationships table and click the Add Task button below the table.

  2. There are three ways to create task relationships in Task view 3.0.

    Using the Create Relationship tab:

    1. Open a task.
    2. To the right of the Activity section, click the plus icon. 
    3. Select Link Task.
    4. Search or browse for the task.

    From the ellipsis ... menu:

    1. Open a task.
    2. In the top-right, click the ellipsis ... to open the Task settings menu.
    3. Select Relationships.
    4. Click Task.
    5. Search or browse for the task.

    Using /Slash Commands:

    1. Open a task.
    2. In the task description or a comment, type /blocking,/waiting, or /link to.
    3. Press Enter on PC or Return on Mac.
    4. Search or browse for the task.

Display linked tasks in List view

You can display your linked tasks as a column in List view to see existing Relationships and create new ones.
To display linked tasks in List view:
  1. Click on the + in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Linked Tasks from the options.
  3. A new column will appear and show the count of linked tasks

Clicking on a task count will bring up the Relationship modal. Here, you can add and edit related tasks.

Add relationship columns

Relationship columns allow you to display field data from related tasks within task view.
