What are Autopilot Agents?

ClickUp Autopilot Agents perform actions based on defined triggers and conditions. They follow instructions using customizable knowledge and tools. Autopilot Agents run in specific locations.

Autopilot Agents are most helpful when you need intelligent assistance that can handle ambiguity, make contextual decisions, or create original content within specific teams or workflows.

What are Autopilot Agents

Autopilot Agents:

  • Run on specific locations, including Lists, Folders, Spaces, and Chat Channels.
  • Only take action when triggered by specific events, and only if the specified conditions are met.
  • Use their provided instructions, knowledge, and tools to take action.

How do Autopilot Agents work?

The following table explains how each part of an Autopilot Agent functions:

Parts of a Autopilot Agent Description  Examples
Trigger An event that happens in the Agent's location.
  • A Chat message is posted in the Channel where the Agent is created.
  • A task's status is changed from In Progress to Ready for Review.
Agent Conditions

Something that must be true for the Autopilot Agent to run. 

Agent Conditions are only available on specific Triggers.

  • Only trigger if the message is a question for HR.
  • Only trigger if the task has questions for the legal team.
Automation Conditions

You can add Automation Conditions to Autopilot Agents on Lists, Folders, or Spaces.

Automation Conditions are not supported for messages in Chat Channels.

  • Assignee is Sam.
  • Status is In Progress.
Action

What you're asking the Agent to do.

For Autopilot Agents in Chat Channels, the only available Action is Launch Autopilot Agent.

Available Actions for tasks include:

  • Launch Autopilot Agent
  • Create Docs with AI
  • Create task with AI
  • Create subtask with AI
  • Edit Custom Field with AI
Instructions Tell your Agent exactly what to do and how to use the selected tools and knowledge.  For example, search the Workspace for relevant info and then post your answer in a thread.
Knowledge

You specify the Workspace items and locations your Agent can access.

You can also allow an Agent to access our public-facing help articles and certain external apps set up via Workspace Connected Search.

Check or uncheck the boxes in the Workspace Data and Other Sources sections to specify which data and sources are accessible.

Select specific Lists, Folders, tasks, or Docs to give the Agent context when taking action.
Tools

Autopilot Agents always require the default tools toolset.

Hover over a toolset to see its tools.

Click Add tool to add additional tools to your Agent. 

An Autopilot Agent creates draft emails to send as part of a marketing campaign. 

Adding the Generate image tool allows the Agent to generate placeholder images in draft emails.
