Connect your Dropbox account with ClickUp to attach files to tasks and comments!
What you'll need
- The Dropbox integration is available on all paid plans.
- You can authorize one Dropbox account per user per Workspace. Different Workspaces can be integrated with different Dropbox accounts.
-
Guests and limited members with comment permissions and above can use cloud storage apps to attach files to ClickUp tasks.
The data in your Dropbox account will not be available to anyone else through ClickUp. If you attach files from Dropbox to a ClickUp task, you can control who has access to the files by making your tasks private.
Connection types
The features and commands available depend on which type of connection you use.
| Connection type | Description | Features | Commands |
|
Personal connection |
Connect your Dropbox account with your ClickUp user account for each Workspace you've created or joined. The data in your Dropbox account will not be available to anyone else through ClickUp. |
Personal Connected Search: Search public and private files from your connected Dropbox account. No one else can search for files from your personal connections. Create Attachments: Attach Dropbox files to tasks and comments. Cloud storage must be enabled. |
Open Dropbox: Open Dropbox in a new tab. |
|
Workspace connection |
The Workspace owner or admins can enable Dropbox as a Workspace connection. Use this connection to give everyone access to connected search. |
Workspace Connected Search: Workspace Connected Search allows all Workspace members to search for both public and private files from the connected account. |
Set up the Dropbox integration
Learn how to set up the Dropbox integration.
Search Dropbox files using Connected Search
After enabling the integration, you can use Personal or Workspace Connected Search to search Dropbox files in ClickUp.
AI does not ingest file content that is more than one year old. You may search file names from over one year ago, but the content will not be accessible via Connected Search.
Dropbox link previews
See live, synced visualizations of Dropbox files in your Workspace. Eliminate the need to switch between apps and potentially lose context.
Preview Dropbox links
To create a preview of a Dropbox link:
- Paste a Dropbox link into ClickUp.
- Select Preview.
- You'll see a detailed preview of the Dropbox content in ClickUp. This preview automatically updates when changes are made to any relevant fields.
All previews include the following information:
- If available, a thumbnail
- File name
- File size
- Date of the last edits made
Only members that have connected their Dropbox accounts can see your link preview content.
Mention Dropbox links
In addition to previews, you can also mention Dropbox links. Mentions provide a more condensed visualization of the content in the link.
To paste a Dropbox link as a mention:
- Paste a Dropbox link into ClickUp.
- Select Mention. The first time that you paste a Dropbox link, you'll see the option to connect your account.
- The link mention will display in your draft. You can add additional text and other content to your message before sending.
Paste Dropbox URLs
If you don't want to use previews or mentions, you can paste a Dropbox link as a traditional URL by pasting the link and clicking URL.
Attach Dropbox files to tasks
Once the integration is set up and cloud storage is enabled, you can attach Dropbox files to tasks.
Use /Slash Commands to attach Dropbox files
Type /dropbox in a task comment to attach files in as few clicks as possible.
Disconnect the Dropbox integration
If you no longer need to access Dropbox files in ClickUp, you can disconnect the integration from the App Center:
- Search for and select Dropbox.
- Depending on your connection type, select the Personal or Workspace tab.
Only owners and admins can disconnect Workspace connections.
- Next to Connected, click the ellipsis ... menu.
- Select Disconnect.
- To confirm, click Disconnect.
